This. Right from the get-go, a most-hated listed is a little silly. We don't really know any of these guys. I would be pretty bummed if everyone judged my character based on mistakes that I made at work. It just so happens that their mistakes are picked up and picked apart by national and international media outlets.

And ignorant fucks like ourselves.

Certainly, a bad Giant toward the end, but he was probably the best position player on the team for a couple of seasons. (shivers)

So he was the least-ripe pile of shit in a sewer?

Great. Congrats, bud...

Again, agree about AJ. He is the undisputed champ, and all other discussion is about either #2 or expansion of inclusion to the list. AJ is the Alpha and Omega.

While I was no RoRo fan (I refuse to call him "Gamer" because that gives too much respect to him), I don't remember it being head-and-shoulders worse than what Franchez did. RoRos interview was in a Chicago paper and he was more claiming love for the Bears (as well as other things Chicago, sure).

Franchez was on a national show gushing about the Doggies.

Neither are mortal sins. Neither were right.

In Franchez's defense, his contract was much more reasonable (2/12 vs 5/60), he was legitimately injured vs legitimately sucked, and he had a VERY nice run in late 2010 that included the playoffs, vs a fairly forgettable showing by Rowand throughout. Plus, you have to admire Franchez for overcoming his congenital defect (clubfoot).

I will concede and agree that Rowand has had the more acceptable post-Giant life.

My two kroons.

???

I have not heard from either since they left (save for RoRo appearing on American Chopper).

What are you referring to?

I thought this:

"Franchez was on a national show gushing about the Doggies."

Happened after he left the Giants. Do I have the timeline wrong? Sorry if I do.

That was after the '10 Series. He was still on the roster through '12, and played half of '11.

My bad on that. But the rest of my post stands.

IMHO, all in all, Franchez >>>>>> RoRo.

18M for a little more than 1 year of near-Allstar level play at a premium position, then NOT taking up a roster spot when he was unable to perform

vs

60M for 3.5 years of crap play and whining about not getting his .215 hitting ass in the lineup more often.

Tough call

Don't forget the batting stance. That's probably the biggest strike against the guy. You would think once you started hitting .215, you'd look to maybe change things up a bit. He made slight adjustments, but nothing I would call major change. His game was in dire need of major change. He isn't too old to play. There is a reason we've only seen him on O.C.C.

Hell, when I have been on the toilet for more than 5 mins without success, I make "slight adjustments" as well, but I am still sitting in a dump-inducing pose.

This will not likely turn around any Barry Zito haters, but just in case, I think this post fits this thread quite nicely.

In memory of his father, Joe Zito, who died on June 20 at the age of 84, San Francisco Giants left-hander Barry Zito has announced he’ll be making a very special 4th of July donation.
For every strikeout recorded across Major League Baseball on the Independence Day holiday, the Strikeouts for Troops founder will donate $500 to the Welcome Back Veterans Fund, which is an organization designed to provide care to veterans and their families.

No word yet on the total $$ raised, but still, a VERY nice gesture.

I didn't look at the stats, but say 14 games (we got rained out), at 15 K's per game = 210 K's * $500/K = $105,000. Nice gesture indeed.

Zito`s always been a big time donor, especially to that cause. Even when I hated him for stealing our money, at least he was being Robin Hood with some of it. He`s a really good guy.
