Stay out East Kovy, no West contender needs your 40 goals (well, the Flames could use them, but they have Jokinen and Tanguay (there's 40 goals right there).

Who's with me?

I don't think that will happen. Essentially Kovalchuck would be taking a $14 million pay cut from the original contract in order for NJ to make it work for him to play for them. Remember, he would have made $98 million in the first 14 years of the previous deal. He'd be taking a $1 million per year pay deduction.

I also don't see that happening since the KHL is still offering $14 million a year for 3 years tax free, $42 million total, which is the equivalent to a little over $64 that will be taxed in the USA. Do the math.

Honestly I want Kovy to sign with the Kings if he stays in the NHL.
The Penguins have Crosby, Malkin & Staal.
The Flyers have Richards, Carter & PRONGER.
The Devils have Parise, Elias & Brodeur
The Rangers have Gaborik & Lundqvist.

It's going to be hard enough as it is for the Islanders to stay out of the division cellar. Adding Kovy to the division will only make it worse.:L

ESPN is saying the Devils & Kovy's agent have submitted a contract to the league for their approval. No word on how long or for how much yet.

this is i'm assuming on their bottom line or something right?

i'm in a cabin in upstate new york just south of kingston and i don't get espn where i am, and i'm not seeing anything on their site or lebrun, burnside, or hradeks twitter accounts so i'm jw where you saw this

They did not submit a contract exactly. They submitted a concept for a contract. What does that mean? It means the Devils said "we would like to ....." and the league is going to think it over and say "it looks good" or they will say "you guys need to change a couple of things"

The Devils will not submit an official contract until after the league reviews it and says they will accept it. That way the leeague and the Devils will not have another public disagreement.

I think by Monday there will be a press conference.

i could be wrong, but i think daboltz knows this dave, it says on the the espn front page from their article yesterday that they haven't so unless i'm just shooting into the dark here cause i could be, i think boltz is talking about something new because i don't see anywhere on espn's site anything other than they didn't submit a contract

I saw it on their bottom line a few hours ago. It said the league was going over a proposed contract. For some reason it's not on there anymore.

that means one of two things:

1. it was debunked

or

2. brett favre had a salad for lunch and it was vital that it be on the bottom line, and therefore the NHL tidbit was the first thing to go.

Soviet Sport ran a headline this morning: "Kovalchuk may sign with NJ today". This time they are citing NY Post as their source.
And get this: NY Post got it from PuckDaddy blog where it was posted by Chesnokov who works for Soviet Sport.
Am I the only one who finds it funny?

Will it go round in circles?
Will it fly high like a bird up in the sky?

Kovy is saying either approve whatever deal the Devils presented (or didn't present if you ask Bettman) or he is taking is stick and going home. Oh yeah I see that putting him in the good graces of the powers that be.

Sources close to Kovalchuk have told us that if the NHL does not approve any of the proposals submitted informally by the Devils, Kovalchuk may decide to play in the KHL next season.
Report: Kovalchuk sets deadline to be signed or else KHL option becomes real - ProHockeyTalk - Hockey - NBC Sports
