I've always gotten the sense that we haven't made a serious effort to implement a screen game. It almost seems like the coaching staff doesn't want to run them, but does so every once in awhile because they think they should. Then it becomes almost a self-fulfilling prophecy. We don't really practice them, don't run them at the right times, and don't run them well, so they rarely work. Then the staff just goes, "Well, we tried it and it didn't work, so we'll just table it for the next three or four games."

That's part of my frustration with this offensive coaching staff. The things they do well, they do quite well. But they haven't shown much improvement in the areas where they struggle.

Some of what you've posted has also been brought up by people who cover the 49ers. I think it was Maiocco who talked about this during an interview on KNBR. He said something about the 49ers not really practicing screens. His opinion, like many here, stated that teams have to really be committed to it and reallty practice it. He is not a football guru, but he is around the team to know what they work on

Confirms the shopping and that he's done? Or is the fact that it's voluntary leave enough doubt. It seems he's not willing to help us get anything for him. Smith would have reported had we waited until past voluntary workouts.

Yep, that's a great way to get out of the doghouse and get more touches (but I guess it doesn't matter much at this point)...

He's been a bitch on twitter, basically either complaining cryptically or being outward in his displeasure with his role on the team.

Draft a KR/PR specialist in the mid rounds and cut this ass outright. I hated the pick then and he has done nothing to move me from that position still. His attitude seems very Brandon Jacobs-eque.

The way James is handling this pisses me off. It's not like he's been great when he's had the chance. He had a decent run of games in 2012 when Hunter went down, but he is a pretty limited back. He has to run outside, doesn't have great vision, doesn't play nearly as fast as his timed speed, and is all but useless in terms of blocking. He also has ball security issues. His fumble in the super bowl was fairly devastating (wiped out an opportunity to go get to 7-6 at worst, and possibly take the lead), and he almost had a crucial muff in the NFCCG. The guy hasn't shown he deserves the role he wants.

I have no problem with him not showing up to the optional practices because he's probably not being treated like part of the team right now anyway. These optional practices are the equivalent of asking him to go to some horrible chick flick with a girlfriend who's about to dump him no matter what he does anyway.
