The 49ers released WR Kyle Williams today.

He's equally as good in the return game as Spurlock and a much better option at WR than Spurlock. Imo, we should put in a waiver claim for him and cut Spurlock if we win the claim.

Thoughts?

Niners don't have many options at WR and they cut him. I'd say no. Injury must still be a concern.

Even if healthy it would probably be next season before he could do us any good. Staff's first pass would probably take his hands off at the wrists.

I'm game for cutting Spurlock. I thought Kyle Williams was a DT for Beefalo though. (Had a nice week for me in my money league) Either way, still game for cutting Spurlock. (One is white and one is black, not sure which one's which)

Going out on a limb here, but I'd say the pale one is the white guy.

The black one is the one that isn't white.

Umm, I think I'll just stay on the sidelines and watch. Has a Native American ever played for the Redskins? That would make a good interview.

I am all for any moves that makes this team better. The biggest move I'd still like to see is Nmandi but I'd be happy with this move as well. We need guys with good hands. I dont know if this guy has that as I know little about him, but I assume TP does if he is giving his endorsement. I could care less about the return game as I dont feel like it is important right now. Hands. Limited drops.

He's not a world-beater, but he's a young guy who's been a successful kick returner so far in his career.

He's got a lot more upside as a WR than Spurlock and he's way younger. Ross can return punts/kicks while Williams gets up to speed and we get to look at a kid who was thought to be a promising young player till he got bit by some injuries. If he doesn't work out it's not like we're out anything- Ross has looked like a better return man that Spurlock thus far.

Also, our QB situation is a tad bit better than San Fran's and we have a lot more weapons in the passing game to open up space for Williams. He's a very similar guy to Broyles, so if he works out and gets up to speed by the end of the season he'd add that dimension back to our offense.

Worth a shot mostly because Spurlock doesn't add any value right now, imo. Williams might. If not, swap him for someone else. I'm not all about roster turnover, I just don't se any value in Spurlock at this point.

They just got Manningham back and Crabtree is due back this week, I believe, so that may have factored into it.

Again, I'd like to reiterate that I'm not wowed by the guy or anything, I just think he's a better apples-to-apples (awesome game, btw) slot WR/return game. I'll take younger and better every time, unless there's other mitigating factors involved. By Williams seems to be a good kid by all accounts, so no worries there...

The addition of Crabtree and Manningham are exactly why they cut him. Crabtree wont be ready for close to a month though. Also factoring in the injuries those players are coming back from, I find it odd they would cut their depth if they felt he was a viable/valuable option.

Really just trying to read between the lines.

Chiefs claimed him, Makes sense with the history he and Alex Smith have.
