Teams are hungry for a QB(Rams.) Would you trade him and sign a guy like VY for cheap?

I had this thought the other day. VY isn't the answer though. i like having a competent backup so that we don't end up like the Rams and other QB hungry teams though. I doubt we could get much for him, maybe a late pick in a far future year. Now trading him or cutting him does save us almost $1M/$2.3/$3.5M from the cap over the next three years. But that security blanket is nice. A QB with experience and under contract for three more years gives us time to draft and find a QB to replace Romo, and bring him along slowly.

I only said VY because I heard rumors of VY to Cowboys during the offseason.
What if we gave a package deal to Rams, Austin and Orton. Not sure what they would get us, but, if the offer was right, might be worth it.

Now, of course this is basing off of our young WRs filling in better than Austin, and hoping they don't get hurt. Also would have to find a capable back-up to Romo, even though I think if Romo goes down for the season or a lengthy time, we would miss the playoffs.

Can't do it. We just restructured Orton this year. Don't have the money under the cap to trade nor cut him this year

This gets a huge no from me.

1) We can't afford to trade Orton because of cap reasons
2) Why in the World would we want VY as our backup QB?

This is an interesting idea. As stated before because of his contract Orton cannot be traded. Now if he was I'd consider it because you would be trading s one year insurance policy. Not sure if VY would be my targeted replacement though. Here's why I'd consider it. At the moment I don't see us as a real SB contender. If Romo goes down we are definitely not a SB contender. Yes Orton will be OK for a game or two, but not for a good stretch of games. I guess it would depend on what a team offered.

I predict that most on here will want Orton gone if Romo misses signifigant time. Orton sucks
