BTW, none of this means he is staying there. He hasn't commented on the offer and as of now we have to assume he's coming back. We can't crucify the guy because somebody else is offering him money. If he did stay I can't say I'd blame him, $30 million a year is an absurd amount of money.

Well in fairness to him now I don't think anybody is allowed to talk to the media as nothing is finalized.

I do like in that article that Sykora would be likely to come back to the Devils, they just can't announce anything yet.

he obviously will need the devils permission to stay in the khl which i doubt will happen. UNLESS beek is desperate for money and want to rid of kovy. cuts a deal with the khl to cover kovy's buyout and then to throw beek an incentive to do it? say $30 million? how could beek turn that down!

im still fine with him coming back to the team i dont think he will give anything less then 100% if he plays here so thats not a problem.

but what would happen with the "penalty" the devils were issued for signing him? would that also be voided if kovalchuk doesnt come back and play?

if its not then i think the devils made a big mistake in not losing last years pick becuase this year and next years pick will be high

what the hell is wrong with playing in nj?

gomez bounced....nieds bounced....parise bounced......kovy maybe wants to bounce?

wtf!?!?!?!?! you would think playing on a championship caliber team would mean something? living in the metro capital of the world without being bothered with the spotlight of stardom would be appealing? i just dont get it.

I mean it would suck losing him because he's an awesome player, but could it be better in the long term for the franchise? Clears cap space, more money for the franchise to spend elsewhere, maybe we could get that 1st rounder back from the league. If he does walk it's time to start building the post Brodeur Devils. Trade guys like A-Train, Zubrus, etc. and try to build a legit young core of players.

In all seriousness this could be a franchise destroying problem. If he bolts, not only are the Devils a bottom 10 team ( at best), but we ended up losing Parise, Kovy, 2 1st rounders, a 3rd, a 2nd, $5M.

You thought we had an attendance problem before, wait until a season without Kovy happens and we're the worst team in hockey.

A lot of this is the way things are translated between Russian and English. I know how eastern Europeans talk. I work with a guy from Russia. He tells me the same thing.
Its similar to a friend who is about to leave your house, and its really late and he says "I wish I could stay longer"
He says that to be nice. He doesn't literally mean it because he knows its late and has work the next day or whatever.

He is definitely entertaining the media with this. I am sure Lou is pissed however.

Also, Kovy had no problem staying here as long as we were the highest bidder. Sigh. I really hope we didn't hitch our cart to the wrong horse.

Also, don't take this the wrong way, I'm sitting here hoping he comes back. We need him badly.

yeah rp is right with the translation...on the flip side though how hard is it to give tg a call and say hey this is whats up.

mc we hitched the right horse...look at what he did last year he is one of the few players who are worth their contract in the nhl. i know people will bash him because of this and then the whole contract issue but when he laces them up he is worth every penny.
