Kings plan B is to sign some lesser UFAs and tell the fans that signing Kovy would have destroyed the "core" and that this is better. Maybe a trade but Kings have a lot of holes and trading just opens one hole to fill another.

I leave town for a couple of days (on a cruise ship with Kings players and staff) and this is what happens. Funny thing is the Kings Marketing guys all thought it was going good, but the players all saw the writing on the wall.

the year before he had 74 playing 79 games. I think for 5 mill you should get more than 1 PPG.

According to my equation, his ppg translates to an annual salary of $4.4346 million, assuming him as average in all other regards. However, Gagne is also a plus defender and has leadership qualities, which could feasibly add about $1 million more to his value, which falls nicely in line with his actual cap hit.

Unless he retires but that is up to him (He will likely be making a low salary at that point so retirement might not look so bad).

Even so, that makes his cap hit the second highest in the NHL. He doesn't deserve that now in his prime, much less when he's on the wrong side of 30. That money better be closer to $100 million for the Devils' sake.

I would still like to hear the salary confirmed.
