Lets Go Flyers
i think. la radio reporting 15 years and 80 million. even if it is not true it looks like that is where he is going. i am guessing they will announce it on monday.
wow...so LA is gonna take the lower cap hit...for that piece of crap deal? seriously...when's the NHL going to grow a pair and STOP this. it's GOING to handicap a team someday, and people are GOING to be pissed off.

I hate to agree with anyone affiliated with the Pens... But you sir are correct this us ridiculous. Deals like what hossa got and this one need to be stopped(I'm relatively sure Prongers is a 35+ so the flyers are on the hook for the length of the contract). The league needs to regulate this by either setting a max term to deals or making the payroll of a player be their cap hit for that year(which will never happen). It does need to be stopped though cause if teams can constantly get around the cap why even have one?
<snicker snicker>
agreed. and i know...it's hard to handle isn't it? (madame btw). IMO they should add something like 'teams are responsible for all monies and cap hits on contracts with a tenure of 10+ years' or something similar. it's a loophole...and every GM knows it and is moving around it.
It IS a loophole, especially if the contract is front-loaded. Say the 80-mill contract is paid out at 7.5 mil per year for the first 10 years, and then 1 mil per year the last 5 years. If he retires after 10 years, he gets $75 million, the cap hit goes away for the last 5 years, and the team only has had a cap hit of 5.33 for 10 years while paying out 75 mil.it is not really a loophole. the kings will have that same cap hit when he is in his late 30s.
