Yeah, toe picked it and his weight fell back. It's a fib fracture, that's for certain. But I'd say chances are around 90% that he tore the anterior tibiofibular ligament as well (which is a high ankle sprain). Like I said earlier, it really doesn't matter. Gotta take care of a fracture anyway. Still sucks for him and the Kings though.

It appears as though my suspicion of Pix's suspicion being confirmed has been confirmed...

Time for Ryan Smyth to step in and lead the Kings to a post-season berth...

As much as it sucks...it's AMAZING to see the team come together and play as a team, work for each other because they have to so they can survive. At the very least, it'll build character for next year.

The Pens are only 2 points behind Philly for the best record in the East. No Malkin or Crosby & they're still going to reach 100 points. Very impressive.

As for the Kings it's not just Kopitar but Williams is out for 4 weeks as well. The Kings are going to have to play similar to the way Pittsburgh does. They have the defense & goaltending to do it. They also have a MUCH BETTER farm system. I'm not sure about the coach though. He's been in the league a long time but never won anything come playoff time.

While I love the Kings farm system, no one there is ready to replace Kopitar and their AHL team has had a bunch of injuries as well recently. The Kings have announced that they will not make a call up for this injury. They have a total 12 forwards and 10 Dman in LA . The extra defense-men have both played forward for the Kings either last year of this year.

I have no worries (ok a little fear) that the Kings will miss the playoffs. I don't know if they will get to the second round. However; I was worried about that before these two injuries. If the kings should make it to the second round Williams may be back and that could be the spark that gets them to the third round (wishful thinking).

I think they'll make the playoffs. However one & done is probably what's going to happen. Lokhtionov is done for the year as well. He would have been called up in a heartbeat. They can only call Schenn up if it's an emergency. So that's out. It wouldn't be fair to him anyway.

latest update says done until September

Kopitar injury update LA Kings Insider
Anze Kopitar is scheduled to undergo surgery on his right ankle/leg on Wednesday and, almost certainly, will not be able to return to the ice this season regardless of how deep the Kings might go in the playoffs. There is ligament damage involved — torn ligaments caused by a high ankle sprain — that is causing the bulk of the problem, but Kopitar is expected to make a full recovery, according to the report released by the Kings.

It's a little foggy. I may call it a middle body injury. Can we have those?

No, we don't. FAR too much information - telling the opposition the player is hurt somewhere between the knees and the shoudlers is too dangerous. Let's see... I got upper body injury, lower body injury, and just body injury. You could go with that last one. :)

Pretty soon, players are going to be scratched for an "undisclosed reason" every time they get hurt...

I think all the secrecy for injuries is funny. All the next opponent has to do is watch the previous game to know where or what the injury is. This isn't rocket science. Nobody is being fooled.

I still like general body soreness...

Hah, funny thing is, that is actually similar to a condition which can be diagnosed. DOMS is delayed onset muscle soreness, and is an actual condition. So, who knows, it could be more specific than upper and lower. :) In talking about the 'cryptic' way in which they talk about injuries, it just bothers me because I like knowing the more specific things...most of you can probably tell but I love talking about injuries.
