Kind of an interesting hire when his offensive philospophy has depended so heavily on good guard play, which we don't currently have...

Bingo, that's the problem. Can't trade Porzingis, not going to trade Carmelo and don't have draft picks to work with. Not sure what we have to offer other than maybe expiring contracts, which likely wouldn't be near enough...
That's why I don't really understand all of the flack that Phil Jackson has taken for the job he has done since he became GM. He hasn't been perfect, especially hiring Fisher as coach, but when it came to moveable assets, draft picks, cap space, etc. The Knicks might have been the only team in worse shape than the Lakers.
It's like people thought that Phil just showing up would somehow make the Knicks a playoff team.
