Another round of cuts…

TT getting cut is huge. He was the face of the station. I was never a huge fan of Lund, but he is Pappa’s partner. Will be interesting to see how he reacts. Tony was a powerhouse behind the scenes.

Apparently both Lund and Tommy will be allowed to do their shows today. That could be interesting.

Unfortunately I'll be out and not able to listen today. TT was about the only show (other than Giants games) I listen to on KNBR. Not a big fan of the remaining hosts and the nightly national feed is horrendus

I listen to M@M in the AM, but Pappa is painful, so I typically turn to podcasts at that point. I will certainly be listening at 2 this afternoon to catch Tommy’s goodbye episode. Kinda surprised they are giving him the mic today. This could be interesting.

The last time I listened to the Giant 68 was back when Ralph "the razor" Barbieri (RIP), Gary Radnich and Ray Ratto were fixtures there.
Bob Fitzgerald was always good doing the Dubs games....and Pete Franklin (RIP) was a trip covering the NFL.

Pappa is meh. I've always given him the benefit of the doubt b/c of how dirty Fitz did him to become the voice of the Ws. His sexual innuendo is kind of sophomoric, but I didn't mind him with Lund. He knows sports.

Tommy is amazing and will be missed. It seems KNBR has abdicated the throne of sports radio in SF and The Game is now the #1 station. Very few of those hosts are listenable.

I suspect KNBR/Cumulus will going to keep live sports (Giants/Stanford...) broadcasts and morph to national (unlistenable) sports talk feeds as announcer contracts expire. I'll miss the local chatter I had on in the background during the day

Seems local advertising $$ are drying up (just listen to the ads - local plumbers, local sheriff's office, local credit unions.... can't be huge bucks) during talk show hours

This is where RADIO is going sure. But you will still be able to get ”local chat”. That will migrate to podcasts. I don’t think that exists yet, but it will as podcasts continue to evolve.

Unrelated, there was another batch of announcements from KNBR today. They are moving their studio from their current location (which they just moved to a few years ago, if I remember correctly) and taking up residence at Levi. That seems like a bit of a slap in the face the Giants, but whatevs. Also, they hired a new guy, Greg Silver, to partner with Pappa, and they are promoting Pappa’s son, Josh Pappa to partner with Copes.

Seems to me the writing is on the wall for Murph. There is no way they will reup him when his contract is up. The fact they relocated to Levi, though, and promoted his son, I would guess Pappa will be the face of the station moving forward.

Honestly, I could never distinguish his voice from Kevin Frandsen’s. Easily similar.

The last ring of cuts pretty much turned the station off for me. The fact they are slobbering Pappa’s knob is a huge turnoff. I can’t stand that guy. And as unprofessional as Tommy was, he was really the only personality I liked on the whole station and they kicked him a few months back. I don’t think I have listened to anything later than about 9AM since that wave of firings.

Agreed. And FWIW, I rather liked Paul McCaffrey and his silly songs and shenanigans.

Paulie is/was a morning zoo guy. I never thought he belonged on a sports station.

But I never outright HATED him. I always looked at him as a calming influence on the prickishness of Murph. Murph is insufferable. AND IT IS PRONOUNCED WOLF, NOT WOOV!
