I just dislike this all around. The contract is either valid or it isn't. Quoting Bob:
"A negotiated settlement makes sense for both parties. If it goes to arbitration, the arbitrator would rule in favor of one party or the other. So the Kings would either be free and clear of Richards' contract or they would be fully on the hook for the balance of the deal. Likewise, Richards would end up with either nothing or everything he's owed. So there's considerable risk for both sides in an arbitration."
Otherwise known as the same fucking rules everybody else has to play by. If we're opening contracts to negotiated settlements now, why can't the Flyers negotiate their way out of Vinny or Macdonald's deals? What's stopping the Jackets from trying to negotiate a buyout with Clarkson after the play him for 10 games and realize he's a donkey's ass on skates?
