Should the Redskins Consider Trading for Khalil Mack?

would any of you be interested in this scenario ?

it would be preston smith and a pick

what pick and do you think we can afford mack's salary demands

I was thinking about this trade idea a wk ago and I am for the trade. However one must be careful about jumping all in on Mack. Do we have the cap space for the next yr and yr after that. Will we be able to re sign him to an extension, if not he could follow the free agency path next yr yikes!!!!!! If he gives me any idea of doing the latter I wouldn't pursue him. This is an interesting scenario but certainly would being asking the Raiders permission to confer with Mack agent. Something else to think about he could hit the FA market next yr, so trade is needed. We could also address the need for an pass rusher in next yr's draft.

We should definitely consider the trade. Both players are the same age and both will command large contracts, with Mack commanding a couple million more annually.

I would definitely do Smith and Reed for Mack. We save a ton for Reed which more than pays for Mack.

Khalil Mack
4 seasons in the NFL
1 time All Pro at OLB
1 time All Pro at OLB
3 time Pro Bowler
Last 3 year sack totals are 10.5, 11, and 15

It's gonna cost someone a lot to land him. And then the issue may be what Mack's contract demands are. Is this just the Raiders being cash-strapped or is it Mack wanting significantly more than the highest paid defender in the league (V.Miller at 20M/year). For example, Aaron Donald is reportedly asking for 25M/year and 80M guaranteed. If Mack wants anything close to that, a trade for him becomes doubly expensive and a potential cap issue.

Honestly, I'd be surprised if the Niners haven't looked into Mack. Edge is our most pressing need and we'd be using our 1st next year to try for a pass rusher anyway or else we'd be trying to land one of the FA pass rushers to be.

I honestly don't think Mack's worth it. His stock is at an all time high, and you should never buy whenever an asset's has hit it's ceiling.

We have many, many pieces to worry about at WR, DB, and potentially LG/C.
Preston Smith is trending well for us, and may even have a breakout year.

Save the Cap to resign Kerrigan/T.Williams/Sherff.

Kerrigan and Trent are signed through 2020. Scherff hits his 5th year option next year (2019) at a significant raise and you probably want to lock him up long term. You never know about that long term thing with the Redskins. Crowder will be a FA following this season.

In order to make this work the very first question from our perspective must be...what does Oakland need to improve their team?

Giving up Mack they will ask for a guy like Smith but that won't be enough to satisfy their needs. So what else? to me a draft pick is off the table, so looking at their roster, I see a need at a position where we have decisions to make, namely running back. There is no way Oakland was happy with Marshawn Lynch last season. New blood in the name of Perine or preferably, Kelly might just satisfy their demands in such a trade.

Oak isn’t going to trade Mack for smith and perine or Kelley . You would still need a draft pick probably a one

Kelley is horrendously bad. He is not an NFL running back. I'm sure the rest of the league probably knows this.

dad is right, you are not getting Mack without Smith and possibly a couple picks (1st) 2019 & (2nd) in 2020

For that reason I wouldnt do it.

I think Preston Smith has all pro potential.

I think Mack is a bit overrated, not nearly as overrated as Carr but overrated. To me he isnt as good/elite as Donald, Von Miller, Wagner, Jalen Ramsey or even Cam Jordan

For what its worth he was the 20th ranked defensive player in the NFL by PFF for 2017 season but I imagine he wants to be paid like Donald who is IMO by far the best player in the NFL regardless of position.

Mack is great at setting the edge and he gets a lot of hurries but he doesnt finish as well as he should. He also rushes from the weakside and the tackle play in the AFC West is garbage.

Dont get me wrong Mack is an excellent player but the only way I'd trade for him is if it was players (Preston Smith and Perine for Mack) or Preston Smith, Perine, Jordan Reed for Mack or included a mid round pick. Preston Smith, Perine, Reed, 5th round pick for Mack. Not trading Smith AND a top 3 round pick for him.

My prediction is that Preston Smith flirts with 15 sacks this season.

i think mack costs too much in resources to get involved with at this time . resign smith scherf and crowder and use the draft next year to fill holes

I'm in agreement that 2 high picks and a player is WAY too much for Mack. If he comes in a reasonable trade, then so be it... "If" Smith flirts with 15 sacks this year as you have indicated, PAY that man and keep him!
