Very sorry to hear that he won't be returning

I read up on the guy...pretty sweet that he has lived in cinci his whole life. I can't think of another time that's happened in modern pro sports

I like how he wasn't bitter about the hit, he was clearly in the wrong place at the wrong time and wasn't himself that day.

I would have been bitter because it was unnecessary WHERE he hit him.

Huber is not even looking in the direction of the blocker. Sure, BLOW HUBER UP, but there was no need with him not looking and lowering his head to avoid a hit...to hit him up under the chin.

Lower your pads, and check him into next week by hitting him in the lower chest. Just totally unnecessary where he got hit in that case.

Sometimes hitting a guy you can't avoid where you hit him, like a RB or a WR coming across the middle because they try to bob and weave or lower their pads to absorb the blow, etc. But this was basically a defenseless player, NOT even looking in the direction of the oncoming blocker.

I just think it was ridiculous and the Steeler should be fined heavily.

It was a small sample on how the Steelers kicked our butts in that game and deserved to win, but that particular play was totally unnecessary.

I agree. Huber deserved to get clocked -- He made a bad kick into the middle of the field and tried to correct it by filling a lane in the middle (right where there return occurred). To me, that makes him fair game. But it's illegal to hit any player under the chin. No need for that kind of BS.

I'm not sure that particular player is known for taking out punters. Huber already made one fumble that day, he was playing horribly, if I'm the opposition, I want him to continue playing. But, when you're running around the field, it's very difficult to make "finesse hits" on players, if you hesitate you fail. I doubt it was done with malicious intent, now, was it illegal, yes. rules are rules, develop better habits and pay less fines.

To be entirely honest I'm getting fed up with seeing pros still using outdated equipment.... Huber had one of the older helmets and one of those dinky little single chin straps

Not sure about his vertibrae but his jaw would have faired much better with one of the newer revo style ones

Also...I haven't seen much wrong with the hit itself more of just an unfortunate happenstance

He broke his jaw AND his vertibrae because he got hit directly under the chin. Keith Rivers was not wearing a punters helment and that did not help him at all when Ward hit him several years ago. There are big men, running hard and fast, and if you g et hit under the chin at full speed by a shoulder pad, you will be lucky if your head is not rolling across the field.

Huber was not running full speed, he was in slow motion just trying to fill the gap, not running all out trying to make a tackle so for the most part he was almost standing still. The Steeler had a full on shot at him, a huge running start, Huber was not even looking so he was not moving around to try and avoid a hit, and the guy just went straight into his chin with his shoulder pad. He had more than enough time to evaluate the player, that he was an easy target and lower his shoulder into his lower chest stomach. I mean hell, Huber was doing nothing to prevent him from getting clocked, the Steeler could have come in and stiff armed him hard in the chest and chucked him 5 yards on to his back.

It was a completely unnecessary hit.

The Steelers kicked our ass in that game and deserved to win, but that one single HIT (not play) was complete bullshit.

To me that was the key play in the game. Looking at the film, even if you don't flag the Steelers for the hit on Huber, our gunners were both fouled. Hawkins was blocked in the back and Dre was held. How the fuck does the officiating crew miss all three?

Aside from that it is illegal? They throw flags all over the place for hitting a guy above the shoulder pads.

I don't understand why players don't wear mouth guards. That would also help with concussions.

Thanks for checking in.

I agree about the chin straps. They should be mandatory, as should mouth guards. No questions asked.

As for the hit, it was unfortunate, but it is part of football. The only issue is the fact that dude lowered his head, and was standing nearly straight up when he went to make the block. He took zero precautions to NOT hit him in the head area, which is what happened. The crown of the helmet hit Huber square on the chin. I don't think he meant to do that, it was just a result of poor technique.

the refs really changed the momentum of the game there, we've had a few calls go our way this year so in a way we can't complain, but that play was a jaw dropper.
