Willis definitely wasn't Singletary's guy. Singletary was lukewarm on Willis at the senior bowl.

SINGLETARY: You know what, I didn't realize that he was special until I heard his story. I remember talking to Scot several times and I'm saying, ‘Scot, I don't see it. I mean, I'm looking at it, but he's not doing anything. He's not knocking anybody out… and we're talking about picking him with the 11th pick.

Yes. You are starting to get it. Bowman and Boone are not "diamonds in the rough". For Boone, he is not good enough to be a "diamond" and for Bowman, he was expected to be very good so he's not a hidden gem either.

I guess you're just losing me in terms of the absolute lack of consistency you show in the examples that you've cited. But again, any semblance of consistency from you would be pretty out of character.

i've yet to see any indication that singletary had any say in drafting bowman

Yeah, particularly given Toby's clearly false statement about Singletary pulling for Willis, I think we can discount this claim.

I thought it was the opposite. I thought Singletry said he took the time to work out Willis alone and was very impressed?

If Bowman is not a diamond, how in the world is Natrone Means a diamond? Means was picked 50 spots earlier, made one pro bowl, and lasted on the team that drafted him for three years.

And if Bowman was expected to be a pro bowl player, why did he last into the 90s? Why did teams take Rolando McClain, Sean Weatherspoon, Daryl Washington, Sean Lee, Brandon Spikes, Pat Angerer, and Donald Butler ahead of him?

Ya, I suppose I can give you Bowman.

No, I'm sure Bowman was Singletary's guy because I remember how much heat he took for selecting him over the DE from SC that everyone wanted who went to the Vikings.

the 2012 draft was baalke's shit stain. not a deep draft, but basically drafting back ups in the 1st and 2nd just sucks. james is fine, but i hate drafting someone who projects as a slot wr at best in the 1st.

2010 and 2011 he did great. he really set the foundation and this year he filled holes, but this draft is a work in progress. lattimore, tank and lemon could all end up starters eventually. with ian williams and boone, thats a dozen starters in 4 years.

too bad we didn't go tj mcdonald and reid like i wanted. both fit our d perfectly.

No. He wasn't very impressed at the senior bowl, at least in terms of the 11th pick. That pick was all McCloughan.

Frankly, that's what makes this draft awesome. Right now, Reid, McDonald, Lemonier, Patton, and Daniels look like very solid picks. Projecting a little based on what we've seen to date, you're looking at a good starter in Reid, a virtual starter in McDonald who will play a lot and could become the starter in a few years, and major role players in Patton and Lemonier who have starting potential. And potentially our backup QB. If that's all we get from this draft, that's a very strong draft. If Carradine and/or Lattimore pans out, this could go down as a truly special draft.

I'm so excited for next year. Carradine and Lattimore will most likely be the functional equivalent of draft picks as I don't see either playing much this year. Then we've got seven picks in the first four rounds - likely six in the first three - to add to the mix. Next year in the draft I'm all about trading up for DBs in the early rounds, and shoring up the backup OT spot in the mid-rounds.

i'm not very high on mcdonald, we already had a TE with stone hands. patton could be a starter down the road so thats potentially 5 starters which would be amazing.

Well, at least McCloughan did something right then.

I don't think McDonald has stone hands. In fact, his hands are often pretty soft for a TE, at least based on what I've seen of him. He just has concentration lapses at times. That's not a good thing, of course, but it's correctable. Davis would actively fight the ball early in his career. I don't see that out of McDonald. And I think he's got the physical ability - length, size, strength, speed - to be a real matchup problem.

He did a few things right. He added some legit talent to this roster, and the 2007 draft is one of the best in Niner history - frankly in league history - IMO.
