His original contract was very team friendly. The only thing the restructure did was give Kap control over his staying or leaving after 2016. After 2017, there was no guaranteed money & 2017 was only guaranteed after 4/1. The team could have cut him before 4/1 under the old deal without having anything hit the cap other than a small prorated part of his signing bonus.

Basically, by doing the restructure & opting out, he gets a jump on FA before that 4/1 date when it was almost certain the Niners were going to release him.

Thank you for the clarification. I thought he had given up guarantees to get a quick exit.

Can we stop with the 'Hello CFL' fucking nonsense.

CFL QB's have to, you know, throw the ball.

Akili Smith didn't do any fucking better in the CFL than he did in the NFL.

Henry Burris did though. :D:canada:

he did:suds:

In the deal, Kaepernick gave up the $14.5 million in injury guarantees in exchange for a shot at the open market sooner. His original deal was set to run through 2020, and it’s hard to know if Shanahan and/or Lynch would even be interested in him.

Its also a 4.9 mil cap hit according to spottrac

I guarantee you that whatever team signs him will write a clause into his contract that will put the kibosh on that shit.

All they could do is fine him under that clause (assuming he's cuttable no matter what) and being fined would likely make him look embattled and gain support somewhere, keeping him in the public eye and making him money, of which he would donate less than half of it but appear to be giving it all for good causes, even if the way those good causes are structured does little to nothing or is based on reverse racism instead of unison efforts.

Can you explain injury guarantees as opposed to signing/workout bonuses? Does he only get that money if he's hurt? Could they have cut him anyways with minimal consequences assuming he's healthy?

The point is. He's not good enough to keep being a distraction and any team that is going to take a chance on him is going to have to get an agreement that he won't do it anymore.

doubt u can put any clause in saying u have to stand for the anthem
its in the bill of rights just cause u dont agree with something someone does doesnt mean they dont have the right to do it:suds:

I know because he restructured last yr to have this opportunity now...Dumb move because he stinks and won't get a contract anywhere near a starter again....But he thinks he will, we'll see !!

Under the original contract, the same 2017 salary guarantee date of 4/1 existed. Nothing changed in that regard.

You might be right. I just know that if I'm an owner who is desperate enough to sign him, I don't want that distraction on my sideline.

It's pretty self explanatory. If he had gotten injured & couldn't play, his 2017 salary was guaranteed. I omitted it from from my previous post, because it was basically just a double trigger to Kap getting his 2017 salary guaranteed. Under the original deal, had either 4/1 passed or he was injured enough to not pass a physical, 2017 salary was guaranteed.

Teams have insurance to cover most of the guaranteed for injury money.

The Niners got out of the injury guarantee & Kap got the option to get out the contract. Which allowed the team to play him in 2016.

Worth is harbored in Colin Kaepernick as an NFL quarterback. Wrong was most of my postulation about Colin having the qualification, as an NFL quarterback. Most, from that last sentence, is the operative word. Colin needs to improve with some skills--to perform those skills, consistently. On a bad team, he can be a threat to win a starting job, if he develops those inconsistent, and important, skills he sometimes shows. On most teams in the league, Colin is a favorite to be the 2nd-string QB.

However, Colin, a caveat to you for making decisions, where it seems that you're overestimating your stock. Hopefully, Colin and his associates know what they're doing, in that messy, leverage game: free agency.
