A little more cap relief, but nobody will give up anything for a 30 ish safety on the last year of a contract.
Yep, plus he won't get close to $14 million a year from any other team, so there was no opportunity for a trade. Simmons was probably approached to rework his deal down and saw the opportunity to get off this sinking ship so said no, knowing he would get released.

Wouldn’t this make sense to be the year to take a flier on a rehab qb like Wilson or mac Jones?
Or Stidham.

Hey, hey....

I am the main non Broncos fan that posts in here.

Find your own board, @The Q. Think the Bungles board is available.

2024 is the worst year we have had in awhile? The last 7 years have been brutal. How much worse are you expecting us to get?

I don't think we will see a "ton" of vets cut but we do need to shed money and Sean Payton is ready to do things his way. This will be a tough one on the fanbase and Payton will get a lot of hate for it but I still trust him unlike when McDaniels came in here and changed things around.

As good as Simmons is and a great leader we can't keep sitting still afraid to make moves to make our team better in the long run. We have been doing this for 7 years and it aint working... It sucks either way you look at it.
Could be looking at the #1 pick in '25 draft?

Regarding Simmons....there has to be other guys you can release or restructure. Wasn't Simmons the heart of the Denver defense?

I think Justin Simmons is universally loved among Bronco faithful .. No question there

But I will play Devil's Advocate, or whatever the phrase might be

No trade partner because no team wants to part with a low round pick for a 30-whatever year old safety making, what, 18 million ??

If we removed the "no trade partner" and "low round pick" parts, we have "no team wants a 30 something year old safety who makes a shade under 20 million per year

NO TEAM

That includes the Broncos - who don;t even have a QB at this point and are not in contention

From a bird's eye view, the question is not "why would the Broncos cut him", the question was "why would the Broncos keep him ?"

As much as it pains me to say, Simmons might find his way onto a contender , but time has a way of making players like TJ Ward and Malik Jackson very average after they leave Denver ...

Couldn’t have asked him, “hey is there a team you’d like to play for?” then flip him for a late round pick at least?

I can’t imagine we could’ve got nothing for him. Get something for him. We have so little draft resources. Why just cut him?

No trade value mostly because there's half a dozen starting safeties on the FA market right now.

He was the 2nd highest paid safety that was cut yesterday, likely any team who wanted him couldn’t afford him.

I'm confused - can the Broncos sign Simmons at a renegotiated rate? Is this one of those where you have to wait until May to see if you can strike a new deal with Simmons?

My money says he will sign with a contender - something he never had here. Eagles would be a good choice.

Since no team is going to offer him $18mm, this could be possible if he really wants to stay in Denver. His family might want that as well. Probably unlikely though. The man wants to win and it's going to be a while before that happens in Denver.

Bolles Sutton Jeudy should ALL want to move on PS2 as well. We are 3 to 5 years away.

We are 3-6 draft classes behind these teams type of turnaround MO's food for thought.

I’m sure no one knew it at the time and we will have to see what he signs for, but I bet Simmons could end up kicking him himself that he didn’t restructure given the lack of interest teams have him at the moment.

"Behind" is relative. It depends on the age and depth of existing players on each roster. But if you're strictly going by bodies, then you'd have to include every pick.
