One of my favorite gets in the draft last year. He played a lot last year and certainly plugged the run and made tackles, but he did get picked on in coverage. Conventional wisdom seems to be that he is too slow for the Fangio defenses - based on Fangio's history with inside Lbs. This is certainly an easy observation to make based on past facts.
However, if Jewell has only zone responsibilities in coverage (unlike last year) he is actually very good in coverage due to his reflexes and instincts as a football player. The other value Jewell has in a Fangio defense is his ability to rush the passer up the middle.
My thought is the mad scientist in Fangio can build a defense around Jewell in the middle - using Jackson and Cravens (possibly Simmons as well) - in a rover LB roll - the gives the side line to side line good tackler this defense requires for cleanup - when the offense executes a blocking mismatch.
Anyone else see Jewell fitting in with the Fangio defense?
