Im assuming Jones would be ready for Week 1. BUT if Kelley shows well in the last two preseason games would he actually steal the starting RB job away from Jones?

He would be maybe the most obscure starting RB ever in the internet era. He averaged less than 4 yards a carry in his 4 years at Tulane. He's basically a small fullback in an NFL that no longer uses fullbacks. Skins really need to ACQUIRE a running back who can step in and start. I'd even consider Ray Rice at this point. They can't risk getting in a position where they have to depend on someone like Kelley.

Jones don't have his starting card yet so I'm saying if Kelly, who seems to be the front runner, plays well this week he will start game one. Bet it buy it bank it.

Any experienced back other then Thomas still would not start game one if acquired tomorrow.

I think Joique Bell would be able to start but I agree if Kelley tears it up Friday he could start Week 1.

Jones getting treatment. Sounds likely he will play first game of the year to me.

I agree but what if Kelley does well Friday night? Do you play the hot hand or go to the original depth chart?

Sounds like they plan to give Kelly and Marshall pretty equal reps against the Bills. Don't think they've decided at this point, be fun to see who does better. Hope to see both with the 1's myself.

Here's Jones on how he feels today...feels a '2' out of '10' on the pain scale. Was an '8' after the game IIRC

Still think we will pick up another RB after cuts no matter how well Kelly/Marshall do.

While it's likely Matt Jones will be back for the first game, you gotta wonder how that joint will hold up.

I have been much more impressed with Kelly than Marshall. But I swear when I looked at his Tulane tape he appeared to be a small, quick guy who I figured had to beat out Thompson. But he could run for 10 YPA and Jones still starts the opener.

Neither one of these guys are the answer. Kelly averaged just over 3 yds per carry at Tulane. He was basically a FB. Marshall was third string in college. He is fast but has no cutback ability (or desire). If these guys can't produce in college, its highly doubtful they will become productive in the NFL. I'm not even sure if Jones is the answer. He still runs way to high and he fumbled again last game. Many have often said (including me) that good RBs can be found on the waiver wire. Now is the time to find out. Get them in now so they can learn the playbook before Week 1. Also, keep your eye out for cuts in the last week.

Does anyone have Pierre's number?

Yeah, I think they've probably got a player or 2 in mind that they expect will get cut that they'll be ready to pounce on. Otherwise, they'd have signed a veteran. I mean... sure, it doesn't hurt to give Kelly and Marshall a look, but they're huge long-shots, imo. And Jones - even if he fixes his issues - he's never stayed healthy.

John Riggins isn’t worried about the Redskins’ running game

An interesting take from Riggins & there is merit to his stance. I do believe that they need some running presence, but this idea that they need to develop some type of power running game is a little dated. I think that regardless of who they play in the backfield they should be alright. As mentioned in one of the comments for the article the real concern is how they will defend against the opponent's running game.

Make a trade with Atlanta for Tevin Coleman since he is down on the depth chart and wants to start. He could come in here and compete for a starters role once he gets acclimated. Immediately makes our team better.

Karlos Williams costs nothing though to bring in. Is it possible he learned from his mistake? The man had 11 TDs last season and cut into Shady's PT.
