Tough one now to take a chance on. Figure 12 games for his drugs/domestic issue is likely. So if he did clean himself up, he wouldn't be playing.

Not seeing this happen but if he did this is how I'd do it.

Say Manziel somehow cleans up his act soon. Gets his court stuff resolved. If a team wanted they could sign him to a vet min deal for 2 years in mid september (after week 4). They owe him zero dollars in 2012 (all lost due to suspensions). He can't come near the team, only actively partake in the NFL drug program. After this year he is then completely unguaranteed for 2017. They would then have him the entire off-season before the 2017 season to make a call on him before they would have to pay him a dime of any salary.

Of course that's 2.5 months away, so very unlikely, but if it happened, that's how I'd try for it.

Yes, he's a free agent, still an active member in the NFLPA, still eligible to sign with an NFL team at any time. If he turns in his retirement papers he wouldn't be.

No I don't see anyone signing him, but he's not the 1st or last to be suspended while he's a FA. Teams that might be thinking about signing him have to know his status before hand.
