Free agent LHP Johan Santana is close to signing a minor league deal with a team (Cafardo, Dec. 29).

Seven or eight teams – including the Mets – have inquired about Santana this winter, according to someone with knowledge of the situation (Castillo, Dec. 8).

His agent – Chris Leible of the Legacy Agency – recently said on Twitter Santana is throwing from 150 feet on flat ground with no pain.

On a minor league deal he is going to be an absolute steal for whoever gets him.

I'll be rooting for him wherever he ends up. Hopefully it won't be the Yankees.

Not sure how much he has left in the tank but he will slowly work himself back into an MLB rotation

On a minor league deal it's not much of a risk factor. The last season that he played for the Mets he was still solid, had a no hitter. As an end of the rotation guy he'll be solid. Obviously with his contract and what he had accomplished earlier in his career people will say he was a bust for the Mets but he really wasn't. He wasn't 05, Cy Young best pitcher in baseball Johan but the guy still knows how to pitch.

Wouldn't mind the rangers taking a flyer on him.

I feel like he'd be right up Billy Beane's alley. He loves the reclamation projects.

Thought the Twins were back in the mix. If he is all better it will be a huge steal for a team and also could work as trade when the time is right. He can help out many teams. The Mets were also rumored to still have interest although I am not sure if it is both ways.

Going to Minnesota makes a lot of sense and the Twins are stacked with crappy former NL East "aces". He would fit in just fine.

It's kind of a sad to see such a once dominant pitcher finish out his career like this.
