The Mets and Johan Santana are very likely to part ways this winter, according to Andy Martino of the Daily News.
“It seems to me that both sides are ready to move on,” writes Martino.
Even so, team insiders told Martino they won’t rule out re-signing Santana this winter, but if they did bring him back it would be with similarly low expectations, like was the case with Chris Young and Shaun Marcum when they were signed.
The Mets must decide by the end of October whether to pick up Santana’s $25 million option for 2014, which they are instead expected to buyout for $5.5 million, while making him a free agent

Well, injuries plagued his career here, we were on the cusp of a title when we acquired him and he was one of the best in the game at the time. Thanks for the first no-hitter in our teas history, just wish things played out different for him.

I figured that this would happen - they have guys in the system that can be in their rotation next season

Yupp, that we do. Not sure how many will make it, think Sandy will get some stop-gap guys till the kids are ready.

Yeah this is a no brainer for the Mets. Loved Johan and appreciated what he did but it's time to move on from that era of Mets baseball.
