They drafted him in 2009, round 2. My external shit is just a speed bump but an annoying one. No worries
Thanks, though!

...only one year though, and the last thing we need is defense....
Some Flames would eat Semin right up.
li0lsh???
Well he'd certainly be swapping Semin around.
EDIT: Holy fuck big Eloco post appears wow.
Good. Trade Semin! This should have happened last year, this off season, whenever. Guys a cancer and with Green and Carlson contracts next year, he's not going to be here in 12/13 anyway. Semin gets a penalty most games b/c he waves his stick around and does NOT move his legs. I can't tell you often I yell "Semin, move your fucking legs" at the TV screen. It's ridiculous. And he'd be SO good defensively if he just did that little thing, but he doesn't. He hasn't. He won't. At the end of the day, he's a very dumb person. And I'm not saying that to be mean. He's just not very smart.
Overall, I think OV is being unnecessarily criticized right now. I don't think he's played great D the last half dozen games or so. But he made big strides last year and did everything the team asked him to do. Made a lot of nice defensive plays and people are trotting out a lot of old stereotypes that were probably true 3-4 years ago, but I don't think apply today. That's not to say in recent games he hasn't had some shitty D plays, he has. But you can't say "OV doesn't play defense." That's not true at all. He did whatever was asked of him last year and improved as a 2-way player. He's never going to be Datsyuk or Jordan Staal in a defensive role. He doesn't have the skill for it like those guys. But he's put a lot of effort in and improved. And to be fair to him, when you put in everything your team asks of you and you don't see results, it has to be frustrating for him.
I don't think OV suffers from lack of heart or effort. He has his off nights like everyone, but he works his butt off out there. You can tell he desperately wants to get back to form. And saying he doesn't change is crazy. He curls off and passes, he goes down the boards, he's been going to the crease a ton.
I don't think his body can do right now what his mind wants it to do and I'm not sure why. He falls and loses the puck too much. And I'm not sure why that is. He came in in great shape. He's only 26 so it's not like he's past his prime. And while some say "he only has 2 moves," there honestly aren't that many moves. Go around the guy on the left, go around him on the right, pass and get to a scoring area, or shoot it. Simplified, that's about it. He's losing the puck in open ice at times. Just losing it as he crosses the blue line without pressure. That has nothing to do with the defense. And his shooting percentage was around 13% from 2007 to 2010. This season and last - 8.9%. Even when he makes that great move and takes the wrister, it's just not in the right spot. That percentage is the difference between 45-50 goals, and 25-30. Big difference.
And the thing about his minutes. Boudreau said at the start of the year he wanted to keep them down to not wear him out. But now it's because he's not performing? That's crap.
I fault BB for a lot of reasons (and I've been a big BB supporter)...
(1) You can't become the coach everyone says you need to be all the time - last year he needed to be more defensive, so he changed. This year he has to be the disciplinarian, so he changed. After awhile, people don't know who YOU are, they don't trust that you know what you're doing, and they lose consistency in what their roles are.
(2) The line changes are ridiculous. He changes them constantly. Again, guys need consistency. You need strategy to move the puck out of your zone, or beat the trap, or beat a team in the shell, or to hold a lead. Changing ABC to ABF doesn't address the root problem.
It's not Boudreau's fault, but he also isn't solving the problem either. And as a coach, it doesn't have to be your fault for it to cost you your job.
Sorry for the rant. Just frustrated and don't think Tarik's article or the OV criticism is really fair. I also don't think as a coach you ever say it's the players fault even if it is. That is toxic. You say it's your fault and YOU have to do more. That's your job as a coach. That's what great coaches do. BB transitioned this team. He deserves a lot of credit. Fair or not, I think it's time for a change. I think it's unlikely, but I think it's needed.
Gonna be honest with you, I am probably not going to read all or any of that.
Also, if you don't think Semin has value in a trade, that's crazy. He's a 40-goal scorer. Not many of those around right now. He'd be a ticket draw for a struggling team. And there is ALWAYS an egomaniac coach who says "I can change him"... and sometimes, they do.
Semin would be great on a bad, boring team that probably isn't going to make the playoffs and needs help drawing a crowd.
SCRATCH SEMIN!
So, who do you think the Wings will send to the Caps in return?
Holland would need quite a package in order to get GMGM to unload his Semin...
