Now, some of this is media contrived, so I need to temper my feelings, just knowing some of the stuff doesn't really exist...but it's hard to like a team that seems to have an oddly corrupt front office. Maybe corrupt isn't the right word, but I just have an uneasy feeling about them. I guess I'll never feel comfortable with the concept of the GM answering to the CEO. I'm sure there are other teams where there are things like that, but it just doesn't seem like something you do when you want to have a winning hockey team.

I feel for Boterill in all of this. Either he will be fired or he will be told you will groom now under Rutherford for a few more years.

Staying would take a big dose of humility. Not an easy thing to do.

@Hope_Smoke 26s
Kypreos is saying on FAN 590 that the reason that Mcguire isn't the GM in Pitt is because they couldn't come to terms on a deal.
@Hope_Smoke 7s
Kypreos is saying that McGuire wanted a 5 year deal & Pitt wanted him on a 3 year contract similar to Tim Murray's in Buffalo.

Calling BS on that. I don't think he was ever a candidate.

:burt: at Kypreos.

What a tool. Not even McGuire would be dumb enough to make demands like that in his first chance at a GM job.

Exactly. If he were offered the job, he would've taken it. I don't think he would've been too worried about the term of his contract. Just silly.

NOW...if that were somehow true, that means Rutherford was their SECOND choice. Maybe even third if you include Brisson, who said no. Again: I'd be amazed if Botterill stayed after being passed over, especially if those rumors hold water. Reeking very much so of old boys club.

If I'm him, I quit and go elsewhere - there are other opportunities out there

What's amazing about this: Shero owned Rutherford on a few trades. The Pens won the Staal trade, even if keeping Staal may have been a solid move, and Rutherford gave us Jokinen. Gotta think this complicates re-signing those guys too. Jokinen and Sutter, both traded by Rutherford...now looking to sign a new deal with him?

Wasn't Jokinen a rental? If so I could see that being no issue at all.

Sutter though... there might be some hard feelings there.

Sutter is RFA, but he was definitely hurt by that trade. It took him awhile. Even when asked questions after the trade, there was none of the "so excited" comments, not for a long time. He's also the Pens most important FA. Rutherford has his work cut out for him...the draft in the blink of an eye, possible trades with guys like Neal, and a million FAs. He can put his mark on this team VERY quickly. His track record with contracts isn't the greatest, but he has freedom to go to the cap now...still, he has to be careful.

If I'm Dan Bylsma though, I'm a little pissed at the Pens for leaving me twisting in the wind all this time while other teams were looking at and hiring coaches.

Agree completely, what Morehous has ever done to essentially oversee hockey ops is beyond me. No way his input should ever be considered in any real hockey decision. Yet here we are.

on the serious tip, John Garrett was in the cesspool the other day and Pierre Mcguire was telling people (not 1 person ... plural ... people) in hockey media that he would take them (again ... plural) with him if he got the Pens GM job

also confirmed by Doug Mclean in the cesspool

Gord Miller was a given ... could the Kyper have been the other (or one of the others) guy????

could have been so beautiful ... could have been so right :pout:
