If he gets the money that he was rumored to want, I'll laugh. I don't think he's the Cards magical answer to their SS issues. That said, it is an upgrade...just a REALLY expensive one.

I think he's there to be the SS, with Carpenter probably moving to 3B, and Wong to 2B. Although I suppose those three could be interchanged.

Cleveland knew what they were doing four years ago when they moved him to third. (Cabrera pushed him there, but still). As a guy who had to watch a shortstop with cement shoes for three plus seasons, I feel for what Cardinal fans and more importantly their pitching staff will have to endure with Jhonny playing up the middle. If he plays third its a nice signing, maybe. He has good hands.

Carpenter does seem like he can play anywhere. I just hadnt pictured JP getting a starting gig for anyone as a shortstop. Nevermind a team chasing titles. Wong did play short in college...

you are completely correct doug..impressed he was hitting better than everyone on the tigers team and swinging like a fool....he actually had heart...an excellerated heart we found out...but at least showed heart...will take that over defense any day of the week.

It was only 50 games, but he did hit well as a leftfielder this October. (He started one out of 11 PS games at short, I think). I was right with you hoping he'd be back as our third baseman Dougie.
