2016 Redskins Draft Profiles: Jeremy Cash, SS
Excerpt
Jeremy Cash, S
School: Duke | Conference: Atlantic Coast Conference
College Experience: Senior | Age: 23
Height / Weight: 6-1 / 208 lbs
Projected Draft Status: 1st-2nd Round
NFL Comparison: Deone Bucannon
College Statistics
Player Overview
Jeremy Cash is a little linebacker. That's almost exclusively the position he played while patrolling Wallace Wade Stadium in Durham. This, or any other website, will tell you he plays safety, but that gives a false idea of what he does on the field. Cash plays all over the box, from outside linebacker in a 4-3 front, to creeping right up on the line of scrimmage and shooting every gap possible. From what I watched of Cash, he was rarely put on any coverage islands and didn't play any center field. But Cash is a form tackler who seems to diagnose almost every play correctly, always in position to make a play.

Strengths
- Reads plays and sniffs out screens, runs and quick passes very quickly. Makes a lot of tackles behind the line of scrimmage.
- A form tackler. Cash always hits between the pads and the thighs. I wouldn't worry about him ever getting called for head hunting at the next level.
- An excellent blitzer.
Weaknesses
- Can struggle trying to hang one-on-one with receivers down the field.
- I wonder if an NFL defensive coordinator will be willing to deploy Cash in the same way that Duke did.
- Larger tight ends can control him if they get in his pads, neutralizing him in run defense.
