Sure he was good. But he sure as hell wasnt great in the post season. Especially not for what he had around him. We would have beat Dallas in '92 had Montana played in that game..just so you know.

Do you remember the games that Troy Aikmen and Emmitt Smith had that day? Jesus, since when is a football team a one man show.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Steve Young's post-season failures had way more to do with our defense getting ripped, Hearst getting hurt, and having Loville and Kirby for two seasons.

Youngs turnovers didnt hurt us in any of those games?? I remember the Falcons game well, Young had three very costly INT's in that game.

Kind of interesting to see that when you take out the one year each was injured...Montana and Young each had four post seasons cut short where their opponent outperformed them in the running backs department.

Do you understand the concept that you can sit back and defend the pass when your opponent doesn't have a running game? You don't realize that Young was forced to try and win the game? Shame on him for working with what he had and not coming up roses like Montana always did, err wait he failed four times too.

Truly hilarious stuff. Garcia was a complete scam. No arm, some of the worst happy feet in the pocket of all time.

He should just be thankful Terrell Owens was ready to catch his 5 yard dink throws and take them for 20 consistently.

If we have a running game no doubt in my mind we beat the Falcons in 98'. The 92' game vs Dallas it was on the Niners first drive..maybe even first play... something like an 60yd TD to Rice called back for holding (BS call). If that stands the whole complexion of the game changes. Lets look back at some of these games

92'- 1st turnover on a muffed punt, Dallas recovers at our 22 (3 points)
(our next drive Young runs for a TD)
Next drive we miss a field goal
2nd turnover- Waters fumbles (7 points)
The first 2 Dallas drives of the second half are long TD drives
3rd turnover- Young intercepted by Norton Jr. We hold them on a 4th down and drive down and score on a TD pass to Rice.
4th turnover- on our last drive Young is picked off

This game I can't fault Young. One int led to no points and the second was desperation drive. It happens.

Shit... I will have to finish this later cause work just got busy.

From Garcia > Young to Young > Montana in less than three pages...

I was never making the argument that Garcia was better than Young at all. In my first post in this thread all I said was that it would have been interesting to see Garcia with those late 90's teams (97 and 98). I also said that Young had a lot of turnovers in those playoff games..but that still doesnt mean that I thought Garcia was better.

From Garcia > Young to Young > Montana in less than three pages...

First off, Garcia was a scam, the product of Terrell owens ability, and I would never even think to rate him ahead of a baller like Steve Young.

Steve>Montana is much more realistic, and IMO true. Steve got stuck with poor running games after Watters left, and Montana always had better defenses. Young was a much more polished passer, a more gifted athlete, and more prolific passer in terms of statistics. IMO a much more productive player.

It's the "rings" argument. I see that you are a Giants fan, so would you really say Cody Ross>Barry Bonds because Ross has a ring? Of course not.

montana was amazing, but imo young at his peak was a much better qb. losing shanahan, watters, deion and eric davis was brutal. no pass d, young being the best rb on the team and shanahan was the perfect coordinator for young.

the cap and poor management decisions hurt young's legacy

garcia was a pro bowler, but happy feat was more steve bono material than montana/young
