Jed, I truly am trying to understand your points and obviously am missing some point in your comments...

Here is one of my issues.

Curt Dukes gets recruited and he is the next Scott Frost.
Harrison Beck gets recruited and he has 100 stars so he is obviously great.
Cody Green gets recruited and he is the next Vince Young and going to start right away.
Brion Carnes gets recruited and he is related to Tommie Frazier and came from the same high school so he is the best we have even though we have the next Vince Young already in Lincoln.
Bubba Starling gets recruited and he is going to be the best even though we have Tommie Frazier's relative on the team.

These so called perceptions were created by the fan base and lived by the fan base and are the property of the fan base. Not the Players... thus, they have nothing to do with success or failures of the player themselves.

Are you saying they failed because they did not live up to your expectations...?
I also know that those who did not meet the expectations that the fans had of them... are not blaming the fans or the so called pressure placed upon them by the fans.

As soon as these kids get recruited they are automatically compared to someone that was great before ever putting on a college jersey and the previous best ever player that was recruited the year before that is already here is just kind of cast aside. If Bubba turns down millions just to play here, the love and pressure on him will be higher than it already is because he turned down millions for the "love for Nebraska and the game". It is just too much to put on a college player so quickly. If he goes pro, yes there is pressure but he is then a professional and the pressure is justified as a professional player should be treated like a professional.

as for you stating the following; “Again, if that is what you took from what I said then that is on you. You are dead wrong but that is on you. Go ahead with you perceived story."Did you not say this

" It is just too much to put on a college player so quickly ."

What the hell is anyone putting on any player. They are given a chance to come in and be part of a storied program, get a great education and have a great time doing it.

I think the media creates alot of these "The next coming of ......" and the fans just resonate what is being said in the media.

My biggest concern with Husker fan is how quickly we turn on our own (i.e. Tom Osborne, Niles Paul, Cody Green, etc...)

Exactly. We turn on our own people when they don't perform......because truthfully that is all most fans care about. I couldn't believe the amount of people who turned on Taylor last year.......and people will say it is because of his attitude but in reality it is because he wasn't blazing down the sidelines scoring touchdowns like he had been earlier.

The thing with you I that it is either one or the other. There is nothing in between. If you said something was hot and I said it isn't that hot then you would think I said it was cold. There is no middle ground with you.

That is why you perceived reality doesn't bother me.
Hope it don't (bother you), it should not as this is a board for anyones viewpoint...

LOL...@ perceived reality... comment...hehehehehe

I have on occasion... been guilty of letting my opponent reach middle ground.... and I had to run stairs until I puked so hard that my nards felt like they were coming out my ears...

I do not hold this feeling close to my heart...:nonod:

My point, sir irule, is why act so much like you care about the kid now then? As soon as he doesn't choose nebraska suddenly he isn't worth caring about. It just proves that we don't care about recruits as people, but rather as being a super hero for our team.

I feel no shame in saying recruits are dead to me as soon as the sign the dotted line elsewhere. What, am I supposed to cheer on Tevin Mitchell at Arkansas now? I could give two shits about Tevin Mitchell.

I don't like this idea of coddling players as fans either. Do you think Bubba starling put in all that hard work to get a D1 scholarship to hear:

"Hey buddy we sure do hope you're successful, but don't worry no pressure because we aren't expecting you to be a special player for us at all."

Exactly. I'm a fan of football players, not peoples personal lives. Am I supposed to tweet him saying congrats on his GPA?? His new hot ass jersey chasing girlfriend he'd never have if we didn't prop him up in society?? smh.

Not sure what you mean. If he takes the money you won't see me cheering for him at a Royals game.

In fairness to Jed and to try to understand where the communication gap is.. I went to other threads to see what he (Jed) has stated in the past about situations regarding players and fans.

If you read post #41 of this thread and then go to this thread...

Thread here...

Jed...

"So because CG didn't "show US what WE thought he was coming out of HS" we should hold that against him? Is it his fault that WE over hyped him by dropping Vince Young name on him? Is it his fault the OC didn't know how to stand up to the head coach that admittedly doesn't know offense and know how to pry the head coach's lips off of Taylor's balls to start someone else to be able to show US what WE thought he was coming out of high school?

I, for the record, never hyped this kid to be anything. It sucks that we obviously wasted the next Vince Young on the sideline because the fan hype and recruiting gurus couldn't have possibly been wrong.

CG NEVER had to show ME anything and prove anything ME or frankly any of the other dumb fans out there.

I wish him luck where ever he goes and hope he goes to a school with a head coach that doesn't just put him in when they are on their own 1 yard line all the time."

he is saying the same thing I am in regards to who owns the (failure) FANS/OTHERS.

However, we still are apart on the perceived pressure players are under by fans when they come to Nebraska. I don't think this is relevant to any player I know or have known. I do not think they come to Nebraska to be a bench warmer, nor do I think they should have anything but the highest of personal goals. (Superman).

Here is the argument that I see... please tell me if I am wrong here Jed.

Jed believes that (fans) have a direct impact on how a player does because they have such high expectations of the player and the player coming in feels this, thus tries to live up to that superman title.

My Opinion; I do not believe fans have this kind of impact on a player here at Nebraska. Bubba and anyone else for that matter already have that "I am better than the next guy attitude" and that is what makes them valuable to the team.

They have been hearing the fans for years and years tell them they have a high ability and thus they become the leaders we expect them to be. (Persons who don't need a track to run on). This is why we recruit them.

They show up, fight for position and if all falls into place, they become a starter and potentially a superstar, should things break right for them. If they do not (example; Cody Green), people tend to dismiss them as (failures).

Well, was this due to the fans expectations or other reasons outside of their control?

Look, I do not think CG was anywhere’s near a failure... things just did not break for him.

Bad timing, bad decisions (his and coaches), and the fact that we had other talent that was better suited (coaches opinion) for the situation we were in caused his eventual departure. Fans did nothing to cause it.

So who owns this failure... those who labeled him the next messiah because he did not live up to the label they placed upon him.

However Jed; I can say without a doubt... I would never suggest to Bubba that he make a decision based upon perceived pressure...

For that matter, I would not suggest anything to the young man... it's his decision to make and I am sure he will do what he and his family feel is best for him. I would like to see him wear the Husker uniform, but we will be fine regardless... or maybe better than fine... Depends upon your definition of fine.

His own urban dictionary page, the Schick & Nick Show, Unportsmanlike Conduct, and now his own Sporthoopla.com thread?

As a society I feel we may be creating a monster here? Is it too late to slow him down?

It is his thread you know?

BRS is right. The pressure is simply too much for Jed to handle. We've expected too much from him. He will no doubt crumble under the pressure.
