I don't have a defeatist attitude.......I am just a realist. The reality is that no kid should be treated like they are the next coming of Christ before they even leave high school. You just never know how an 18 year old is going to react to that.

Now, if he chooses Nebraska I can tell you one thing..........I am no longer going to call that kid a kid..........I'm gonna call him a man. Because it takes a man to turn down millions of dollars and deal with the pressures that have been placed on his shoulders.

I would be very happy to see him scoring TD's for Nebraska..........but people shouldn't be surprised if it doesn't pan out either. I remember when Cody Green was going to win the heisman 3 years in a row and what not

Here is one of my issues.

Curt Dukes gets recruited and he is the next Scott Frost.
Harrison Beck gets recruited and he has 100 stars so he is obviously great.
Cody Green gets recruited and he is the next Vince Young and going to start right away.
Brion Carnes gets recruited and he is related to Tommie Frazier and came from the same high school so he is the best we have even though we have the next Vince Young already in Lincoln.
Bubba Starling gets recruited and he is going to be the best even though we have Tommie Frazier's relative on the team.

As soon as these kids get recruited they are automatically compared to someone that was great before ever putting on a college jersey and the previous best ever player that was recruited the year before that is already here is just kind of cast aside. If Bubba turns down millions just to play here, the love and pressure on him will be higher than it already is because he turned down millions for the "love for Nebraska and the game". It is just too much to put on a college player so quickly. If he goes pro, yes there is pressure but he is then a professional and the pressure is justified as a professional player should be treated like a professional.

Don't disagree much with your points as far as the Husker recruits and the hype and pressure.....until the next year when there is a new next best thing.....good stuff.....

Only minor quible goes towards your assesment of Bubba being treated as a pro for going into professional minor league baseball.....It's an apples and orages kind of thing because baseball is the only sport that has infrastructer and system in place to develop their own talent without using the colleges to do it for them. I don't think an 18 year old guy with seemingly everyone placing all the expectation possible on him is any more or less whether it be at Nebraska or being the "rich kid" with a major league contract that isn't treated the same by all his peer players the same age......

Fellow minor league players don't care how old their teammates are they only care if they can play.

Look gents, I wrote out a long answer, but I erased it because it's futile for some to understand the mind of an athlete who really does understand what it is to play for the Huskers or any other big time program.

The failures you guys speak of are "your own" not the athletes who elected to come here or any other div 1 institution to play ball.

We are just plain and simply the most spoiled fanbase in the country...........and we are borderline psycho. The truth is we don't give one shit about these recruits unless they come to Nebraska and then help us win. And that is proven by the fact that whenever a recruit chooses another school over Nebraska, suddenly we don't care about them anymore or talk about them.

And if Bubba chooses Nebraska and then rides the bench his entire career, none of us are gonna feel sorry for him either. But for now we will continue to act like this Bubba fella is our best friend because all we care about is him joining the team and being an all-star. Nobody cares about what's best for him.
