He's talking about me :thumb:

You don't argue with everyone. I consider this give and take with you a form of escalated banter and nothing more but I guess he can't take it.

He was mad I said Rodgers made the plays to win and cutler didn't, and that that's typical of their careers.

I even said it wasn't Cutler's fault lol.

:lol: I give this thread a two thumbs up! Listening to Pats fans giving their mod the business...priceless!

JDM has some strong opinions, some which are rather far out. I'm going to be checking threads here in the future...good entertainment!

Tell me I'm wrong in this thread Harold.

Carroll's done a hell of a job but the ideas that draft position doesn't matter or that you expect every pick to succeed are hilarious.

Well the Seahawks under JS and Pete Carroll have done a better job with their drafting then the Pats have, but it has been a small sample size. Give it a couple more years.

As far as draft position, sure you would think that was important, but it's what you come out with over all that matters in any given year. I haven't really keep up with the Pats drafts over the years, but it does seem like they came out with less then you would expect in some of the past years.

I see your point about swinging for the fence and hoping you hit a home run before you strike out, but only Pats fans can say if that has been working for the Pats ( or someone who takes the time to research it).

Mostly I find it funny that a Pat mod has his own call out thread...on the Pats board!

Naaa, that won't work. It's a forum for discussion, you got to keep a sense of humor. I'm just having some fun with you.

It compresses the value scale, but the difference between high and low first round picks is still massive.

In addition to the above, you said the PFR chart and the Jimmy Johnson Chart show the same thing. Let's look at the "massive difference" between Seattle's Earl Thomas pick and the Pats Devin McCourty pick:

Thomas was taken 14th overall and McCourty was 27th.

Johnson Chart:
Thomas = 1100
McCourty = 680

The 27th pick is app. 62% of the value of #14

PFR Chart:

Thomas = 40
McCourty = 32

The 27th pick is 80% of the value of the 14th pick.

The two charts are not the same and there isn't a massive difference in value between the two picks.

14 is middle, not high. Seattle actually drafted 6th that year. The 14 was a (good) trade from the year before.

Seattle took an offensive player with #6 and we were talking about the Pats rebuilding the defense since 2009.

There is only a 20% difference in value between #14 and #27 and I wouldn't call that massive or even much of an edge.

We have taken offensive players as well. You don't draft one side of the ball and more value to work with leaves you more value to take defenders with.

Also 25% higher (because that's actually the correct way to phrase that), would be, over a four year stretch, the equivalent of an extra year. The difference doesn't stay that high, but 25% higher value is a substantial difference.

Do you think a 20% difference in value between #27 and #14 is massive, and that the Johnson chart and the PFR chart show the same relative values?

Keep in mind, 80% is more than 62%

I think you need to alter your opinion on those two points.

I didn't say they showed the same relative values. I said they showed the same end result. Seattle had much more to work with than we did.

If #27 is 80% of the value of #14 over time as the PFR chart shows, there is a 20% difference between the two picks.

That's not how math works. The difference is relative to the one you're comparing to. The 27 is 80% of the value (or 20% less). The 14 is 125% of the value of 27, or 25% more.
