After watching the highlights no thanks. Looks line a guy that will miss a ton of tackles at the next level.

Really? Looked to me that he was squaring his shoulders and wrapping up on most of his tackles. He can rush the passer as well. That and the fact that he can cover athletic TE's at the next level makes him a pretty tough commodity to find in the NFL.

Myles Jack is better in coverage and now Smith has a knee issue. I dont doubt he can be a great LB assuming the injury is not severe and he does not lose any speed. I just dont take those kind of chances with a position not traditionally drafted in the first round.

Nah. We already have one injured LB who will never be the same again.

Almost every lateral tackle ends with his head behind the other guy. NFL running backs will run through that.

Some scouts were comparing him to Patrick Willis. Wouldn't mind drafting a Patrick Willis type in the first round.

The one thing with Ragland is you can clearly see he is tight in his hips and mechanical. The one play, in the Clemson game, where Ragland has zone coverage over the "y" is great to point out but not even a Bama CB could cover Renfro (a true freshman walk-on with extreme advance route running skills, tremendous burst coming out of his breaks and extremely fast. keep an eye out for him) but on rare occasions.

There's plenty of tape, this year, that shows he can stay with reach of "slower" receivers over the middle but not once they get out of 2nd level.

Nice post. This is all assuming that Smith does not lose any speed. Pure speed does not always translate well at the next level if that is all you have. Smith to me is a pure cover LB. He does have the hip fluidity that I like to see in coverage guys. I would still prefer Jack over Smith though as his tackling technique is much better. Jack has more diversity then Smith too. Jack reminds me of Alec Ogletree when he first came out of school.

Ragland is not going to be asked to cover anyone. We play with 3 CBs on the field 75-80% of the time. With Tulloch already gone, he is a perfect fit if not better replacement assuming we decide to keep the scheme the same.

Also, LOL that he thinks Smith can cover Riddick. Not gonna happen. Riddick has moves that you wont see in college. Smith may not look as silly trying to do it as most LBs do, but thats about it.

not in a one on one matchup, I'll agree with, but even Tully had assignment in bracket coverage many times. I liked that guys breakdown but anyone who watched more than just the Arky/Clemson game can clearly see Ragland provided decent to good coverage in one on one assignment. The narrator was also dead wrong that Ragland didn't play in long passing downs and was brought out of game and that Bama only had Rueben Foster as a coverage LB.

as an add on. in 2014, yes, Ragland was replaced in long passing downs.

I don't see what the hype is with Jack. I've seen some sights ranking him as a top 3 player in the draft.

Some were comparing him to Von Miller but Miller had almost 40 TFL and 27 sacks his last 2 seasons of college.
