I swear to god I started cringing the second this fucking moron decided he wanted to be an agent. Jay-Z is nothing more than an idiot and the people working for him probably want to shoot themselves on a daily basis.

But when Jay Z then upped the ante and demanded 10 years and $252 million — the same deal Alex Rodriguez took more than a decade ago when he left the Mariners for the Rangers — Mariners chairman and CEO Howard Lincoln apparently “exploded,” according to one of the sources, ending the meeting.

“It doesn’t look like we’re getting him,” a Mariners source said, adding that Seattle did not seem inclined to reignite talks with a player that clearly didn’t want to go there.

At this point I get the impression the Mariners are the only team offering Cano $200m+ and this amateur will have cost Cano likely $20m+. I don't blame Lincoln for exploding. Jay-Z is clueless and has no idea what he is doing or how these operations function.

It now seems unlikely Cano signs with Seattle. It appears Jay-Z's greed will cost them all a lot of money.

I won't agree or disagree with whether Jay-Z is a good agent or not, I don't know and I can't say that I care. But I wonder how you come to the conclusion that he will cost Cano $20 mil? If no one is willing to pay Cano that much money then he's simply not getting what THEY are asking for. No one is costing him anything except the clubs that are smart enough to not pay him that much.

Well this is more like it. The M's getting lead along by an agent because they needed a strong offer from someone to up the ante with the team they really wanted to sign with. Jay Z's a douchebag and everyone knows it. Unprofessional and thinks that his stupid rap/thug thing will translate into sports.

I agree, he's an idiot. A rich one and his defenders will scream that, but still an idiot.

Hey, but at least we tried! Ever heard that before? Same ol' Mariners with the same result, now go overpay for Morales to come back. Forever stuck in mediocrity.

What a total douche. Now the Yanks know that he'd turn down big bucks to stay with the Yankees because either the other teams he was willing to play for weren't interested or he didn't want to leave to begin with. Cost himself and his client some serious bucks. This is why you don't negotiate with teams you don't want to play for. Jay Z should have gotten a list from Cano so he knew that if a deal like this did materialize his client would sign. Now he and Cano look really bad and the Yankees can play hardball.

I think 1 of these 3 happened with this:

1) Cano/Jay-Z are using the M's to (futilely) try to get more from the Yanks.
2) Cano/Jay-Z are using the M's to try to get another (as yet unnamed) team to increase their price.
3) Cano/Jay-Z are idiots.

#1 is only somewhat dumb. Either Cano is going to take less to play for a better team, or he's not.

#2 is actually smart. It's not fun for us, of course, but if there is another team we don't know about that's interested, which is likely, then this makes it so Cano can at least get better money from a team other than the abysmal M's.

#3 speaks for itself. Jay-Z just blew millions for himself and his client without fulfilling any planned strategy.

Weird. I wish I woke up a couple of hours later this morning so there'd be s simple yes or no being reported instead of this garbage.

I guess he isn't an imbecile. He just got his client a 10 year, 240 million dollar contract.

Safe to say I was premature in posting this thread.

I have to imagine they kicked Jay-Z out of the meeting and the people at CAA (Creative Artists Agency) which is one of the largest talent agencies on the planet, took over negotiations and worked out a deal.

Jay-Z was obviously nothing more than a 3rd wheel to this entire process trying to live out his best impression of Ari Gold.

Or we can just continue the narrative of Howard Lincoln being an idiot and almost costing the M's their biggest FA signing in their history over 1 year.

Or maybe you should have just ended your post after you first sentence, the one about prematurely posting this thread.
