Offensively, the Cubs don't gain a whole lot over Dexter Fowler. Defensively, JHey is a huge upgrade. I just don't see how he commanded that much money from either team. 8/$184MM from the Cubs or ?/$200+MM from the Cardinals.

Age is a factor. He's only 26 years old, which is very young for a free agent.

I guess. He seems like a mediocre batter though for quite a while now.
Its going to go one of 2 directions.

Heyward was hitting sub .200 for the first 75-80 ABs last year and then probably hit something like .310 the rest of the season. So basically he has been a mediocre hitter right until his contract year.

I guess. He seems like a mediocre batter though for quite a while now.

He has a 114 OPS+ over the last four seasons. His bat is certainly above average, even if disappointing.
