TFY Draft Insider Tony Pauline reports free agent James Jones is drawing "heavy interest" from the Lions and Jets.

I really like this. James Jones was a beast 2 seasons ago w 14 TDs I believe. He'd be an awesome compliment to Calvin.

I hope we keep looking. He flat out stunk the last 2 years. And that is with the best QB in the NFL and 2 other very good WRs to take attention away from him.

6 or 7 games with Tolzien or Fuckin' Flynn throwing the rock has a lot to do with some decline for Jones in 2013. GB pretty much went with Lacey pounding it after losing Rodgers

Good point but he won't have Rodgers throwing him the rock this year either. I guess my opinion would depend largely on the price.

I just don't see a guy with a history of dropping footballs being considered for a #2 WR, especially at the price they are going to have to pay. My guess is 3 yrs, $11MM

3.5 is pretty cheap for a #2

Jones is absolutely a legit #2, imo.

He's also came a long ways since his problems with drops several years ago. I don't think he's considered to be a "drop risk" anymore, or however you want to call it...

Maybe you are right.

I just read the following projection from former agent (CBS) Joel Corry regarding Golden Tate. Seems like teams are getting spendy.

Wide receiver Golden Tate
Contract package: Five years, $35 Million
Guaranteed money: $17.5 million
First three years: $22.5 million
Tate was Seattle's leading pass catcher in 2013 with 64 receptions and 898 receiving yards. He didn't crack the NFL's top 30 in either category because the Seahawks ranked 31st in pass attempts. Tate fared better with advanced statistics. He had the fifth-best drop rate among wide receivers on catchable balls at 4.48 percent and was second with yards after catch per reception with 7.9 yards in 2013 according to PFF. Robert Meachem signing a four-year, $25.5 million deal ($14 million guaranteed) at the start of the 2012 free agent signing period after a 2011 season with 40 receptions, 620 receiving yards and six touchdowns should be encouraging to Tate.

Now i can agree with that......jones would fit nice as the lions number 2. GB has always had alot of weapons.....jones might of even been a 1 WR on some teams.....his drop rate has been great lately i read where as someone like lance moores was higher.

Golden tate reminds me of a troy brown....put him in the slot and teams will struggle with him.....too bad we couldnt get jones for the 2 and tate for the slot.....

NYG OC McAdoo (former GB QB coach, this could make sense)

Logical matches in free agency

6) James Jones and Evan Dietrich-Smith to New York Giants

The connection here is that the Giants recently hired former Packers quarterback coach Ben McAdoo as their offensive coordinator. McAdoo takes over a Big Blue offense that has needs at running back, tight end, receiver and a few places along the line. (Otherwise, everything is fine and dandy!)

I think Jones is one of the most underrated free agents set to hit the market. He's a solid receiver who actually led the NFL in touchdown receptions (14) two seasons ago. Obviously, after spending seven seasons with the Packers, he would be familiar with McAdoo's system, and he'd provide a nice boost for Eli Manning, who's fresh off the worst year of his career. Meanwhile, Dietrich-Smith, who would also know McAdoo from Green Bay, would help bolster the interior of the offensive line. Remember, Eli was sacked a career-high 39 times last season.

Never have liked Jones much. Caught a bunch of touchdowns one year, just a third receiver other than that. Don't want to see him as our #2. Id support Watkins or Evans if that's the case. And I don't want to support Watkins or Evans. Wouldn't bother me to see him as a third, if he's paid like one.

I agree, jones' success correlates with aaron rodgers completely. Hes a product of aaron.

I disagree, I see jones more as a number three.

tate would be great at the right price

I agree with ya here. I don't see Jones being a #2 and sure as shit not a #1. He's simply another target in GB.

However, I do support Watkins or Evans in the D. ;)
