Sad to see him go... He couldn't get any run support with the Red Sox this year. His record wasn't good at all but he didn't pitch that poorly for a 4th/5th starter.

Wish him the best with the Giants!

Giants bolster rotation by acquiring Jake Peavy from Boston - CBSSports.com

The Giants are acquiring veteran starter Jake Peavy in a deal with the Red Sox, league sources say.

Boston is said to be receiving minor-league pitchers in the deal.

Peavy has been pitching better lately after a rough start in Boston this year, and part of the thinking may be that a switch to the National League will help.

The Red Sox's loss to the Rays Friday now drops them on the cusp of falling out of the race, but Boston is strong in starting pitching, so the move doesn't necessarily signal a white flag for Boston.

Peavy is said to be content to be going to the Giants at this time after winning a ring in Boston his year there. The Red Sox acquired him at the deadline last year.

The Cardinals also have shown interest in Peavy. Interestingly, the Cardinals announced they had signed A.J. Pierzynski Saturday. Peavy and Pierzynski had teamed together with both the White Sox and Red Sox, but were said to have had an uneven relationship.

FOX Sports first said Peavy was close to going to the Giants.

I think he will do decently for the Giants. After all he isn't bad in the NL... Sure he won't be an ace but the Giants don't need him to be

Peavy's a cocky douchebag. He'll fit right in.

You see what the Giants are doing, right? They're taking everyone's rejects cause "we'll fix 'em." :rolleyes2:

I heard they're making an offer to Pat Burrell.

I really think he will do decent for the Giants Hammer. Again, he doesn't have to be the ace, nor are they asking him to be.

His era in the NL is better than the AL.... I think he's good for 4-5 wins

If the Giants don't get rocked by the Dodgers last night at home with the kid on the mound, do they make this panic move? I doubt it.

Yeah I was a little shocked it was the Giants. I figured it might be the Braves or Cardinals because I never heard anything about the Giants being interested in him.

I heard they had Uggla in the lineup yesterday. I'm sure he had a big night.

Who? This was a salary dump and getting another douchebag out of the clubhouse for the Sox. Now that AJ and Peavy are gone, they'll probably get the clubhouse back.

Peavy was NOT a clubhouse problem at All Hammer... He liked Boston and everyone liked him

1-9, 4.72 ERA

Glad to see the Sox get something in return for him.

Strange that you say that.

Sports radio mentioned the same thing but it was only in regards to AJ. They also referenced the departure of Crawford, Beckett, and Gonzalez and that seemed to work out fine.

You may be on to something...You have a inside source in Boston?

AT&T should help suppress the home runs somewhat, but he does have his highest walk rate since 2003 and his strikeout rate's on the decline. Right now, his 4.81 FIP and 4.34 xFIP marks are his worst since 2003.

I like this move for both teams, Red Sox dump his salary and Peavy should be a suitable back of the rotation guy for the Giants given some run support. Other than Coors, most ballparks in the NL West are pitcher friendly so he should be alright plus he has familiarity with the division from his time in SD.

Agreed, and the Sox got two lottery tickets in Escobar and Hembree. They're more likely to help future Sox teams than Peavy was.

Yeah at this point, Peavy isn't of much value to the Sox so I'm not surprised with them parting ways with him. He wasn't pitching particularly well this season but not awful either, so that's like being a perennial first round playoff exit team in the NBA. It's better to just bottom out and start anew rather than hang around mediocrity just ask Bucks or Blue Jay fans. Looking to the future is key for the Sox in this deal.

Who are you? A mod needs to check this guy. I think I know who it is.

My name is Doug, I'm actually new to this site. Just a fan looking for a good forum to talk about sports on. Is there a problem?
