Jake Arrieta has been really good this month. I added him to my team before his last start, but I dropped him since he is owned in only about 60% of espn leagues and the other owners in my league aren't very active in terms of adding and dropping players. I was able to pick him back up last night and I'm going to start him against a pretty hot Reds team tonight. I'm hoping to keep him, so that he can fill a roster spot that I've been using for the old "pitch and ditch" starters. So, I'm curious what others think about Arrieta, both tonight and going forward. Anyone think he might get traded to a contender, particularly in the NL?

Couldn't open the link, but I'm definitely interested in what you wrote.

Never mind, I found the article by going to the site. Goo read. I saw his start against Miami and he really did a nice job of mixing pitches, particularly the sinker and cutter/slider that you discuss.

Sorry for the bad link. I think he has enough potential to make him worth a hold, but his next couple starts will tell us a lot. If he can keep the momentum going this week, I bet his ownership rates will rise over 80%.

Now is the time to pick up Arrieta. Unless the Cubs are dumb or pig-headed, they should be in full SELL mode soon. And, after Sameyechart, Jake should be the next guy out of town. And, a change of scenery to a contender should only help him and his numbers going forward.

Say hello to your new 1B T.D.

Carlos Pena just got called up.

Jake used to be awesome until the 5th back in the O's days. Not using his straight 4 seamer as much (or at all?) has a lot to do with the new Jake. I'm buying.

LOL Think I'm more excited about having added Arrieta to my fantasy team than the Rangers turning to Pena. Then again, who knows?

One of the announcers (Jim Deshaise, I think) talked about how that was a key in Jake turning things around.

If they were to trade Arrieta which I dont think they will... it would not be good if he went back to the AL. Just saying...

It's obviously an advantage to pitch in the AL, but I think that only part of Arrieta's improvement is attributable to having switched leagues. To me, as someone mentioned earlier in this thread, having developed that nasty cutter this year seems to explain a lot of Jake's improvement. That said, I really hope that he is traded to a contender with a strong bullpen, particularly an NL team.

I'm leaning toward starting Arrieta against Boston tomorrow, but his history against them does not inspire confidence. Bad Jake has given up a .407/.476/.870 slash to Boston in 54 ABs. Surely the good Jake will nearly cut those numbers tomorrow nigh in half, won't he?

I would not worry too much about the history. He is not the same pitcher.

Good call, tlance! The bad Jake is dead. Long live the good Jake, particularly if he's traded to a contender with a good offense and a reliable pen!
