I want to know if this is going to happen before I really begin to imagine the possibilities.

Jaromir Jagr will announce a decision on his NHL future within hours, according to reports.

Typical from a drama queen like Jagr. He will have a Pens uniform on this year for sure. For the Pens fans sake i hope he knows he is not the man. Sid is by far. If Jagr does not play in the corners like he never did in years past he will end up hated. This NHL is not about gliding around anymore.

When was it?

Again, who? From the Penguins perspective? You said you'd still give the contract to Fleischmann, but you never rebutted my points.

I guess it depends on what you expect from Jagr. I don't expect much. So I wouldn't give him much. Would playing with Crosby & Malkin help? Absolutely. However Jagr isn't anywhere near the same player he was. People see what he did in the Worlds & think he's going to do the same thing in the NHL. I just don't think he can do it.

He might reach 40 points playing with Crosby or Malkin & on the powerplay. If you feel that's worth 2 million then so be it. I don't. Frans Neilson had about 50 points last year & he made 550 grand.

What a great example. The Isle signed him in 2008 when he had played a total of 31 NHL games. Hey, glad it panned out for them, but not exactly what I was going for. Also 44 points last year (albeit in 71 games). Not saying a guy on a small contract from three years ago can't pay dividends. Want to try again?

I will say he was a insane force at his prime but he knew the physical part of the game would destroy him so he bailed.

I guess if you wanna drop descent cash fpr a PP only player he is worth it. As far as the Pens are concerned I would not want to screw with Sid or Malkin

Supposedly Jagr has broken off talks with the Pens, claiming Svoboda is now negotiating with the Habs and Wings because they could at least "double" the two mill Pittsburgh is offering. Right. If you believe that, Jags, I have a shiny new team in Kansas City that wants to sign you.

What do you expect from Jagr? He's not Bill Guerin. You might think he is but, he isn't the savior you seem to think he is. Jagr has been away from the NHL for too long. If the Pens want him it's fine by me. It just means they'll have less cap space to go after somebody who can actually help them win the cup.

The most important thing for the Pens this offseason is the health of Crosby. It looks like Malkin will be ready to go. If both guys are healthy the Pens are going to be among the favorites anyway. Neal will get to play with one of them which will be a huge help. If Jagr can chip in 40 points it's a bonus. I see him as a gate attraction which he shouldn't be. This isn't the early 90's. The Pens sell out every game anyway.

Why you mad, bro?

Your team just won the cup, can't be feeling the heat already, can ya?

The Pens in my mind has a amazing team. Without Sid and Malkin made a solid run in the playoffs. With Sid and Malkin healthy they are a dominate team. Jagr will not have that much of a impact.

Im not mad at all.

Czech reports: Jagr says no to Pittsburgh??? Svoboda says his client’s disappeared

by George Malik on 06/29/11 at 08:33 PM ET
Comments (2)

If we are to believe Blesk’s Miroslav Horak and Pavel Barta, or, via Paul, Lidovky.cz’s Antonin Vavrda, Jaromir Jagr has supposedly turned down the Pittsburgh Penguins’ offer of about $2 million per season and is either negotiating with the Red Wings and/or the Montreal Canadiens through his agent, Petr Svoboda…

Or Svoboda has at least told the Penguins that their offer to Jagr is unacceptable as he believes Detroit can double it (which is ridiculously in “hard to believe” territory), so he’s continuing to negotiate with Ray Shero to garner more favorable terms.

Depending on how you interpret quotation marks and who’s saying what to whom. Methinks the Czech press is jumping the gun, and I’d prefer to wait to hear what the North American press has to say in a language I can understand without having to rely on online translators.

Update: Do we consider these comments made by Svoboda to the Free Press’s George Sipple stalling?

Jagr was flying to the U.S. today, but his agent, Petr Svoboda, was still waiting to hear from him long after he was scheduled to land in New York.

“I don’t know if he missed a connection,” Svoboda told the Free Press after 8 p.m. “I have no clue.”

Just after 5:30 p.m., Svoboda told the Free Press: “No word. He has not arrived yet. It’s probably going to be another hour or so. They’ve had some delays in New York. As soon as he lands, he’ll be calling me.”

Would not surprise me that Jagr would be happy in Montreal. After all if he gets hit they can call 911 :P

Please quote where I said Jagr was the savior? I think I said secondary scoring matters, which he can provide, and which you seem willing to concede he provides. I'm arguing with you because you seem to think it's a bad pickup for the Pens...I don't see that at all.

Pens will have the cap space to add some additional piece at the deadline if they need to. If you're going to claim that signing Jagr is going to keep them from signing a key piece at the deadline, please elaborate. The only star Shero has brought in at the playoffs has been Hossa. His MO seems to be 2-4 million guys that are complimentary players.

He may not have that much of an impact. Considering the success they had without Malkin and Crosby in the lineup, I'm not all that concerned if this ends up not working out, provided that he signs in Pittsburgh.

If we get to January, and he truly can't cut it in the NHL, I still think it was worth the risk. If Kennedy, Rupp, Asham and Talbot end up being elsewhere because of this, I still think it's worth finding out.

There hasn't been scoring prowess on the wings since Sykora, Hossa and Guerin were here. That in itself is reason enough to find out.

James Neal is NOT a complimentary player no matter what his contract is. He's a legit goal scorer. Shero has done a very good job putting the team together. Granted the main pieces were already in place before he got the job. I don't think Jagr is worth 2 million. If another team gives him more then it's their mistake.
