Just hope he has enough strength in that hand to make most the throws and hold onto the ball? He didn't look good after he injured it.
Edelmen named the back up. What does this do to his playing time? Will he see any action with Derby as the emergency back up?

I heard a rumor this morning, which seemed like total BS. Garapollo was supposed to start today and even the radio stations around Boston were talking about the possibility of BB switching JG and JB as needed.

Then I heard the rumor............The San Francisco 49ers are desperate for a starting QB and really don't want Gabbert or Kap running the ship. A first and 3rd pick in 2017 and a 1st in 2018 for JG now. I almost drove off the road and I've been everywhere on every sports radio station I could find on Sirius and on my TV. NOTHING.!.!.!

Then about an hour ago, CBS has an alert at halftime of the Jags/Colts game in London that says JG will not even suit up today.......WTF????

Something is up........

I mentioned this in another thread. If TB is going to stah for two + years no way they can afford Jimmy G. Jimmy has a year left. If he reaches FA NE won't be able to handle two starter QB contracts. So unless NE does some pretty creative financing it ain't happening.

Need to see more from Jacoby. He looked like the real deal until he injured his thumb. Waiting to see if he has surgery now that TB is back. Plus his running ability could make him an above average QB. Not likely ever top 10 but certainly middle?

I'd love to keep Jimmy G as he looks like a great fit. But it's a business. BK had an interesting write up about some trade rumors.

Yeah to me you take that type of deal if you think Tom is sticking around for a while. Tom isn't expensive in QB terms and with that kind of firepower in the draft you can continue to keep one of the most talented rosters around Tom for the next few years. Heck this next QB class looks decent so maybe you draft one of them early again and have a few years to develop them. If you don't like what you see after next year then just continue to draft QB's. You would have the firepower draft wise to continue to be aggressive in trying to find Tom's replacement while also still adding talent to the team.

I didn't go pull it up but I'm pretty sure TB has a lot of guarenteed $ back loaded to his last couple years. At least that's what I remember. Regardless you got to take that deal. I don't think franchising JG is an option?

Well right now if I remember right the Franchise tag is $19.95 million. Next year it is expected to go up quite a bit considering the QB deals that have been signed this off season. So while it is an option it is a very expensive one. As for Brady's deal we have seen he is a guy that is willing to put team before contract. He has figured out that the better the Patriots look he can make up for his loss in NFL wages with endorsements. You throw in it doesn't hurt his wife makes ridiculous money so not like they are hurting for those extra few million. So wouldn't surprise me if they re-do that deal again to just keep going. Even if they have to take on those later years though when you have that type of draft capital you can afford to pay it and not see the team lose a ton of talent. I would add it gives you the ability to feel much more comfortable signing all those guys that are top tier players coming up for contracts knowing you have so many others who will be cost controlled.

So my guess is if the Patriots got the offer they wouldn't hesitate to take that deal.

Brady's salary is in the mid 20's guaranteed next year. I think he gets something like $32M in 2018 guaranteed. I can't see any way of getting out from under that unless he gets traded.

I wonder how bad Brissett's thumb is. Bad enough to IR him, even if the move is more to stash him away for a year? I'd love to see BB sign a vet FA QB (Yates?) and keep one of the current backups.

Oh there are plenty of ways to get out from under that. It has been what the Patriots have actually done with his contract of backloading them then when it becomes due they re-do the deal again. At some point they are probably going to run into a season where there will be some decent dead money whenever he walks away from the game but my guess is they will have a QB in the waiting that they drafted that makes up for that dead money still giving them a lower QB salary than most. Broncos didn't have a ton of dead money with Manning this year but they still did have some because they re-did his deal. That was easily negated though by the fact that they have 2 QB's on rookie contracts and a veteran that is down right cheap.

I don't see TB12 going past 18? Maybe he will surprise me? Regardless that pay day is coming due for the Pats sooner or later. Like you mentioned hopefully NE has a rookie on that rookie contract that can step in? Put an old inexpensive vet as his back up and draft another young QB looking for lightning to strike twice. Just in case the rookie doesn't work out.

Patriots were on the field practicing yesterday. Brady looked very sharp. JG was throwing 30 yard passes. No film of Brissett throwing at all. Thumb is still bandaged.

Who's the backup??

It is a situation I think the Patriots can manage just fine. They have shown they have been one of the best teams in the league at managing their cap. So I'm sure they have a plan for what to do with Brady over the next few years.

Oh I'm sure they do but that doesn't change the fact TB and JG won't both be on this team come two years from now. I'd love to be told I was wrong. But no way I see this happening.
