people around here are pissed. Yankees getting another of their beloved players. $169 mill for 8 years.

I wanted him, but not anywhere near that price. I was thinking 6 years $110 mill

He's really injury prone. That scares me about him. Glad it's not us.

Grant over at McCovey Chronicles put it perfectly.

Keep in mind playing the majority of their games in the very pitching-friendly NL West, how much different are Pagan and Ellsbury? Is it a full Zito's worth of difference? Because that's what Ellsbury is getting paid on top of Pagan's contract.

Ellsbury is probably going to be Johnny Damon-like in NY, but that short porch will make any lefty look good. Glad the Giants didn't touch him at that price, and the loss of a draft pick.

Most of Ellsbury's injuries have come from bumping into walls going after balls other OFs would have played on the bounce. "Hustle" injuries in other words. No shame in those, IMO.

Him playing for the Sinstripes? Bleep, bleep and a few dozen more bleeps.

Jackie Bradley Jr. has some serious pressure on him trying to fill those shoes!

This. Can't give 7 years to a player who has already shown injury issues. Further, so much of his game and value depends on speed. He's 30 and that contract is going to look awful within 4 years when his legs go.

Only the $pankees or doyer$ can afford that type of albatross deal.

You have to consider the fact that the $ux know him better than anyone and they declined to bring him back...that speaks volumes to me. We bring back Pence, they let Ellsbury go. Gotta be health issues.

Still, missed time is missed time. I read somewhere he's only played in 59% of the soxs games the last 4 years.

I'd rather have someone who goes all-out to make catches than someone who is always playing it safe and letting catchable balls fall in.

When he does play he provides more spark to the team than anyone but Pedroia.
