Would you guys consider that a penalty? He did target the kid & came from quite a distance away.

Trouba was the defenseman I wanted more than any other in the 2012 draft class. I think the Jets got themselves one heck of a player.

fair bump, play on.

kid had the puck, trouba hit him from the side, led with shoulder, and didn't leave his feet.
classic case of keep your head up. what finish though.

It was close to being blindside, that's about it.

Dunno, it's hard to tell if the dark blob hit the light blob in the head or not.* Seriously though, probably not, though I can't really blame the ref for raising the arm either. Just hope Trouba doesn't kill anyone is all.

*I'm not complaining, Dash - you would have used a camera to film it instead of an Etch-a-Sketch. Thank you for posting it!

Hard to say penalty or not. Looks like the head may have been the primary point of contact, but I'd need to see a proper Sheriff Shanahan video to know for sure.

One can tell this hit didn't happen in the NHL. There was no immediate fight after a clean hit.

This is one of those things where if it were a Penguins/Flyers game, my mind could be swayed. If the hit were on Crosby, I'd be crying foul. If it were on Briere, I'd be called it a hockey play. I'm actually aware that I do this. Haha!

I think it helped that dude didn't circle around....pose....then gear up for the immediate trouble coming flying at him because he knew he just fucked up. He just skated away like it was no big deal or anything to hurt said lame duck laying against the boards in a heap so it petered out quick.

:noidea:

I actually think that would help his case. When you usually see someone commit a penalty, they overemphasize their innocence.

i know i'm very much in the minority on this.. but i actually think fighting after a clean hit is fine.. who cares if it's clean or not, if your dude ended up with a fractured skull, you should stand up for him.. who cares if an elbow or a shoulder did the damage, or if the dude left his feet.. your guy got mauled, time to maul someone in retaliation

As long as the refs ding the guy who starts a fight after a clean hit with a 2 minute minor plus a 10 minute misconduct, I'm fine with it as well.

I'd be OK even without the 10 (I know under the rules right now it can't happen).

I agree 100%. teams that are prepared to die and kill for each other win.
taking an instigator penalty is (in most circumstances) a small price to pay for establishing yourself as one of those teams.
