To start peddling the 'everything will be different when we're healthy story.'

2015: comeback players buoy Bengals

What is the over/under on this type of article for the offseason?

Oh, there's no doubt they will use this all off-season long.

Jones and his 10 TD's

What could have been with Eiffert

Smith's injury going into the stretch run and protection

Add in Atkins' overcoming injury, and Peko and Thompson missing time on the DL, ReyM missing games, and Burfict having played hardly at all...

The off-season will be full of articles pointing out the injured players and their potential impact. Prepare yourselves now.

No mention of Gio. I wonder if he's gonna be cut or traded now that Hill's taken the job

But they need to get more from the kids on the defensive line, where The Dean, 31-year-old Robert Geathers, isn’t sure he’s coming back.

Hobspeak translated...Geathers is going into the final year of his deal and will be owed:

2015 - $2.85 million (plus $300,000 workout bonus)

I'm over it with this team. I just don't care anymore. I'll watch them and hope they win as always. But I don't care what they do. I'm done getting mad over the refusal to improve or make changes to get better cause this organization will never do what it takes. Mike Brown has driven the competitive desire from Marvin Lewis, and they've coddled Andy Dalton into a gutless, excuse making trust fund kid playing with his dad's money. Nothing but a bunch of company cronies between Lewis, Hobson and Dalton.

At least Guenther sounded pissed about losing and wants to make changes. Won't take long for MB and Marv to brain wash him into being a loser, or he will be fired not toting the company line.

The Bengals are a business first and foremost. yes, the players play to win the games, the coaches have that objective too, but don't ever expect the front office to have an "all in" year. the last time they made a proactive move was when they traded up to get ki-jana-carter... BURNED

they passed up Ditka's mega deal (dumbasses) so they could draft who? I forget.
oh yea, I looked it up. Akili freaking Smith. that tells you that Mike should surrender the GM job to a hired professional right there, but he won't do it. No other proof is needed, the writing is on the wall, it went from obvious to elephant in the room.

they have to spend to the floor, which they call the cap. at least there's that.

NFL 2015 Cap Tracker | Spotrac

just like last season, around 7th or 8th in available cap space (but they will say they don't have any cap room until people believe it)

28 million gives them some room to sign or resign "someone", but of course they will be out of the running for any real difference maker.

Honestly, this is where I've been. It's why I'm not mad anymore about Dalton being the QB. I'll be critical of his play, give him props if he does well, but the days of me believing this team will ever do anything 'sane' went out the window several years ago.

It simply is what it is. It's almost not even worth trying to discuss how to upgrade this team the best way because we all know it's not going to happen.

Just like last year with Collins and Johnson. It's not that I didn't want them back...I just knew they weren't coming back. I knew that they weren't going to pay a backup lineman and they weren't going to pay Johnson with having already paid Atkins and Dunlap. It has nothing about the cap room, it's just how the Bengals operate. Could they have signed both? Hell ya. They had more than enough room (not as much as some would love to make it out to be) but enough to get it done.

It's the Bengal way. 2015 slogan- Mediocrity: It's what we do!

TAMPA, Fla. -- We have documented, several times over, that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' crop of free agents isn’t living up to its billing.

Johnson
But let’s turn to this Insider post Insider by Mike Sando for some more perspective. Sando has two members of the Buccaneers listed among his 10 worst offseason pickups.

Sando ranks defensive end Michael Johnson at No. 1 and left tackle Anthony Collins at No. 6.

No argument here.

Let’s start with Johnson. He was brought in to be the Bucs’ top pass rusher. Instead, he pretty much has been a situational player. In fairness to Johnson, it must be noted that he played through an ankle injury and a broken hand. Still, you expect more from a player who got $23 million in guaranteed money.

Now onto Collins. He was a career backup in Cincinnati who got some starts last season due to injuries. Collins performed well in those starts and parlayed it into a five-year, $30 million contract. But Collins hasn’t played up to expectations. He’s No. 62 in the ranking of offensive tackles by Pro Football Focus.

Collins got $6 million a year, and Johnson got 5 years $43.75 million with 24 million guaranteed and 8.5 million average per year.

That is 14.5 million for those two guys this year, if you look at the salary cap situation for each of the teams in 2014, the Bengals are sitting at $12 million WITHOUT resigning those two guys, and the Tampa media is crucifying them. Can't you guys just give management credit when they do something right? Granted, pass rush sucked this year, but who knows if we would have been much better with Johnson and that huge contract?

Management finally didn't shit the bed on this one and you are castrating them for it. Granted, they have plenty more to be castrated about, but not Collins and Johnson.

You can't judge those players by what they did there..... That was a fucked up team with a bunch of players that didn't fit the system that was brought in by a new coaching staff. The entire team sucked.

Both guys were good when they were Bengals and there is no reason to believe they wouldn't have been good had they been re-signed here. Hell, Johnson was one of our most consistent players his last two seasons.

We went from a top of the line sack team to last in the NFL and we're not supposed to blame management?

SSssshhhhhhhh that doesn't fit what they want you to believe. Johnson wasn't good in Tampa, that mean he must suck and wouldn't help up here at all. He wasn't our best defensive player last year, he wasn't the best member of our defensive line, he wasn't really good against the run and the pass, there is no way he would have been good for us again. That is crazy thinking.

Well maybe Johnson wouldn't have sucked here, but was he worth the 23 million in guaranteed money that he received? Would he have gotten us to the second round of the playoffs? Questionable at best. Like the article notes, he played hurt. One more injured player performing below expectations would not have made this a better team.
