Probably because a playoff structure would do things like that, minus the wild card. I don't know what people are considering when they say that only a conference champion should play for the title. It seems to me that they want at least some elements of a playoff used even if there isn't a playoff. What would the suggestion be if every conference had a championship game and every undefeated team playing in those games got beat by a 4 loss team? Have two four loss teams play for the title? Yeah that sounds great.

I don't doubt that there will be a fuss, but after all that has happened... I don't know how much of an argument they can have. Especially if Oklahoma beats Oklahoma St. Stanford... eh they really haven't shown that they are a great team. I don't even know if they beat Notre Dame at this point. That game could be a coin toss. Stanford simply hasn't proven that they can beat any team you put in front of them.
