There's a lot of talk today on twitter & elsewhere calling for Laviolette to replace Capuano. We'll see if it happens. I won't believe it until it does. To be honest Wang needs to clean house. The isles still don't have a Team President. It's an utter mess & it all starts with Wang. The Isles have plenty of trade pieces. Thomas Vanek, Andrew MacDonald, Kyle Okposo, Frans Nielsen & JOHN TAVARES. Katie Strang actually said a few days ago she wouldn't be surprised it JT asked out. I would be shocked because JT is a class act, but I really wouldn't blame him. It's that big of a MESS.

Those guys all have value for sure. But why would you trade any of Okposo, Nielsen or Tavares (unless they asked to be moved) when they are under financial control for at least 2 more years.

If you trade them to a playoff team there is very little chance that any prospect or pick that is returned turns out as good as Nielsen or Okposo. There is sure as shit no way that any return will get a player who will be as good as Tavares.

I just don't see the motivation of moving those 3 guys.

A reasonable return for Vanek would be a good prospect (recent first rounder) and a late 1st round pick. A reasonable return for MacDonald would be a second rounder.

Now the Isles would have a late first, a likely early second and a later second. They need to stockpile picks and prospects without moving established, young players who are under reasonable contracts.

The Islanders didn't overpay. Regier got a lot more from Minny for Pominville at the deadline last year.

I'm really curious what the Isles are going to do if they wind up picking in the top 5 of the draft this year?

Do they take the pick and let the Sabres have their 1st in 2015 with someone like McDavid coming out, or do they let the Sabres have (2) 1st round picks in the top 5 and hope they get a shot at someone like McDavid next year.

Tough decision, but great for the Sabres either way.

This is Selanne's last year. It's the cup or bust for the Ducks & Murray has the assets to acquire anybody he wants.

It's going to be interesting to see what the Isles do. I hope Garth isn't the GM when the decision is made. Nylander wouldn't be bad either. I expect a top 2 pick. This team is that bad defensively & in goal.

That's because Pominville signed an extension with Minny. The Ducks will have Hiller & Selanne off the books at the end of this season. The Cap will likely go up as well. They're going to want another sniper to go with Perry. Replacing Selanne with Vanek longterm makes some sense.

Who says Vanek is going to be traded at the deadline? He could be dealt sooner. Staple just said there's a 0 to 10% chance Vanek resigns. Changes are coming, probably not until after the current roadtrip. Looking at the Isles needs a goalie is a must. A forward to take Vanek's place & a 1st round pick. If you think that's to much for a proven sniper like Vanek think again.

Besides all the Sabres got were draft picks. Nobody knows who the Sabres are going to take with those picks yet.
