Of those offers, Vandy seems a no-brainer to me. A full ride Vanderbilt edumacation for playing baseball and having scouts in the stands for every game?

And you get to live in Nashville

Also, it's a pretty centralized location; Tennessee, Arkansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, Georgia, North Carolina aren't too far away.... pretty good when you compare to a team like Texas Tech in Lubbock, which is 5-6 hours from DFW 8-9 hours from Houston...

Still too early to claim that Vandy is done. Only a poster as naive as HD would so prematurely come to that.

Next question:

If instead of Norwood hitting that HR in the 8th, a player from VA does instead, are we still having this conversation? I'm not trying to play 'what if' here, but they were that close to not winning, and then they would only have had two CWS appearances in the last 4 years, and how many of us would consider them the premier college baseball school? My point is that I don't think that essentially one win (even for the NC) establishes a premier baseball school.

Guy, don't get me started. Texas choked that series away to Vandy more than Vandy winning it. If instead some scrub who only had 7 hits all season doesn't get the most luckiest fucking bounce ever in college baseball history allowing the Vandy player to score, we're not having this conversation.

Another loss to a no name school for Vanderbilt, who is now 3-2 on the season.

Vandy is right up there in terms of baseball power names IMO.

I wish more northern schools would get their crap together on the baseball front. I realize the sport favors southern players due to the ability to play year-round, but there isn't a lack of talent north of the mason-dixon. Hopefully some day more northern schools will get with the program in the sport.

This ain't your daddy's Big 10. Many schools are funneling money into their baseball programs at a surprising rate. You'd have to go back to the 1980's to find similar investment. Michigan won CWS titles in 78, 80, 81, 83, and 84.

I sympathize with northern schools dealing with baseball. You play on the road the first month of the season due to being freezed out. A large chunk of those practices in the preseason are done in indoor facilities which is completely different than practicing on a real field as we all know. I can't blame schools for cutting it out in their budgets, but I would love to see more northern teams involved. Baseball seems to be a very regional sport at this point in time.

Regionally dominated for sure. But, the recent successes of northern schools like Indiana and Stony Brook shot down the my previous thinking that its impossible for northern schools to compete with southern and west coast schools. There isn't a lack of talent up north, IMO it comes down to the willingness of a school to invest in the program.

My theory is, if you have the right guys in the locker room, the first month and a half of the season is the worst part. You build this: no fear attitude. Especially when it comes to road games. Stoney Brook faced an LSU crowd that had more fans in 1 game than they had seen combined all season and walked away with the series. You build that road warrior attitude.
