Leave it up to the dumb bitch to just sit there. She's a liability, IMO, and I would have dumped her ass before the game was over.

Where was she supposed to go with so little time? He was blocking her escape on 1 side and there was only 1 empty seat on the other side between her and the fence. Its unlikely she knew the exact location the ball would land, especially with him blocking her view of it until the last second. All she knew was that it was coming to her general area. Just like the people 2 rows behind her who thought it might hit them. She didn't have time to escape the radius and standing up would have just made her more exposed. As far as she knew, her safest bet was to stay put. Especially since her boyfriend appeared to be making good on his promise to protect her, up until the last second when he moved out of the way, but by then it was too late for her to move.

He clearly should have caught the ball, and it was embarrassing that he ducked it, but having just attended a social justice leadership retreat, I'm going to raise a point.

I saw the phrase "chivalry is dead." Now, I'm the type who performs chivalrous acts, but during this retreat, I heard several women speak out about how they get offended every time a guy does something like holding a door for them. I was accused of being sexist myself for holding the door for a girl once. She said I should have considered her capable to hold it for herself. So now every time I hold the door for a girl, or a woman, or several, I get nervous that I'm offending them. Fortunately, they usually just say thanks, but what if I'm actually offending most of them as some suggested I was?

Anyway, I guess what I'm saying is that chivalry is getting harder in today's "politically correct" world. It's a natural reaction for me, and I don't just do it for women, but men as well, but I'm always afraid I'm stepping on toes.

But more to the point of the thread, that dude is clearly a loser.

darkstone...if any woman ever does that, i'd pull a Slapahoe like my Native American ancestors. that thought has never crossed my mind. i'm old school i suppose though...while i don't work under the assumption that a lady should merely run the home, that's mostly because in today's economic climate it's not possible, etc. but seriously, for me at least, seeing a man go out of his way, or take the time to do something chivalrous or courteous makes my day. and even though most of you all are in relationships, just know that one thing that's extremely attractive to women (well...nice women i guess? not the 'bad boys' type) is a man who is courteous to others. just sayin'. oh...and i HATE political correctness. it's freaking walking on liberal eggshells. (no offense to the liberals, it just seems to stem from extreme lefties, that's all)

I understand where you are coming from, and I'm glad you are trying to spread the idea of tolerance, but I don't think it counts as discrimination if they treat you as less than they are because you are a Pirates fan.

In all seriousness, though, I agree with you. I hold doors open for women all the time, not because I'm sexist, but because I like helping people. I hold 'em open for men, too. Most women smile, maybe thank me. Every now and then, though, you get some lady who goes nuts on you. "Why do you think you need to hold the door open for me? Because I'm a woman? You are such a sexist pig! It's people like you who ruin the world we live in. I can't believe blah blah blah."

What you do in this situation is simple*. First, apologize. "I'm sorry, miss. I didn't mean to offend. I was simply trying to help a fellow human being maintain their sanity in this crazy world we live in. Since I see you are, in fact, certifiably insane, I guess I was out of line. My apologies. Let me make it up to you, and allow me to treat you in the way you deserve and desire."

Second, since they usually will have stopped to cuss you out prior to actually using the door, slam it in their face.

Of course, as I said before, I'll almost certainly have a snappy little comeback for the next girl who gets offended for me. Perhaps not as elaborate as yours, but still sharp. And I'll say the whole thing in a pleasant tone with a huge smile. =)
