you see it in pros all the time- sacrifice the future to win now!!!

he wont win now...and he for damn sure wont win later.

Im not standing in the way of the deal but im annoyed as hell. This guy is a long time friend that I have played fantasy with for many years but I had to beg him to join the league and now he is mortgaging his team's future...how easy will it be for him to just dumb the league next year.

Also the day before this deal was accepted I offered him Newton, Forte and Maclin for Luck, Stacy and Crabtree and he said it wasnt enough value...I offered him immensely more value.

I understand what you are saying... How many owners in this league and is it a 2 QB league?? If your problem is luck, dont forget that QB is very deep this season and will likely be very deep for the next 5-10 seasons... Luck is not a top 5 QB now and will likely not be one for another few years... Therefore what is lucks real value even in a dynasty league??

Its only a 1 QB league and we have 12 teams.

Brady isnt even top 20 right now. I know things can and will likely change but I'm confident that Luck finishes higher than Brady this year and obviously in the future. Green is great again only for 7 more weeks.

your certainly entitled to your opinion on the deal..but I honestly cannot see the problem, in any way shape or form with this deal. And if this guy wants to play for this year, more power to him, I'd much rather see a guy trade away part of the future for what HE FEELS is a shot at this year, than to see a guy tank the season in an effort to improve next years draft position. I can't imagine having a problem with a guy attempting to improve his team for this season. Now if hew was dealing Luck for Freeman and harry Douglas, then I'd be in your corner %100, but he's not.
Try and relax, let your buddy run his team the way he's sees fit.

My issue is probably that this trade will have a long lasting affect. This is my first dynasty league so I am constantly keeping an eye on the future while also competing in the present.

He has given away his best future prospect for a two year window and a shaky one at that...

That will be completely dependent on who everyone keeps...

Well, you know the top 5 QBs are going to be available since they were likely taken in the first 4 rounds... Then there will be the near elite QB owners who will keep there QBs, but they wont want to draft one of the elite QBs because they dont need him... so there will be 3-5 teams that will not draft a top QB because they already have a very good QB. 5 teams that need a QB, and 2-4 teams that are keeping a QB that want an upgrade... You should easily get a very good QB in the first 4 rounds every year...

Its the first 3 rounds in my league and there were only three QBs taken in the top 3 rounds:

Rodgers
Manning
Brees

I offered him Newton, Forte and Maclin for Luck, Stacy and Crabtree and he said it wasnt enough value...I offered him immensely more value

Comparing the two deals:

Brady (K), AJ Green, Brandon Bolden (K) for
Luck (K), Crabtree (K), Cordarelle Patterson (K)

Newton (K), Maclin (K), Forte for
Luck (K), Crabtree (K), Stacy (K)

Brady/Newton is kind of a wash; I don't think either of them are guaranteed top-six any year from here on out. Obviously Newton should have more shelf (by a little; running QBs don't last that long), but there are simply too many good QBs for that to be a big factor. ROS this year I'd rather have Brady, but I know it's debatable.

Maclin is better than Bolden as a keeper, even though he'll be drafted as a bench WR (small keeper advantage Trade 2), but that's about the same as Stacy having a higher keeper value than Patterson (small keeper advantage Trade 1), so that also looks like a wash from a keeper perspective. ROS: Stacy has more value than Patterson, and Bolden has slightly more value than Maclin (anything is more than zero), so ROS those little pieces favor Trade 1.

Trade 1: AJ is a stud, Patterson isn't really startable, and he probably can't afford to wait for Crabtree. If he's 2-5 or better then he's still in it and the trade makes sense. He can still start Stacy (and Bolden in a pinch). As Treff said leagues are better when people try to win. (Last year I started off 0-6 and just missed the playoffs by losing in the final week.)

Trade 2: Forte over Stacy. As great as the Forte upgrade would be, Stacy is still startable. If I'm trying to win out I'd rather start AJ Green and Stacy than Forte and Patterson.

For me Trade 1 is better in the short-term and no worse in the long-term. (Unless Forte is a keeper, in which case Trade 1 is much, much better long-term - although still not better short-term.)

You might disagree, but don't get annoyed because his player evaluation is different from yours. It's not a crazy trade. He's not trying to screw anybody, he's trying to win.

Rather, pay attention to those differences and use them to make a trade with him you think is in your favor. And be happy to be in a league with thoughtful owners. Your trade was fair, it just didn't help him where he wanted help.

Treff turned down a pretty good deal from me last week in the MBBRL - Moreno and Calvin for Charles and Harry Douglas (before last Sunday), but I see the value in the deal he took instead.

By the way..I would've gladly taken that deal, had I not had one on the table which better suited my needs, cause I had/have a lot of needs..IMHO ;)

I also agree %100 on your evaluations of those two trades, one isn't markedly better than the other and if given the choices I'd probably have gone the same route as the team in question.
i was about to do my own write up on that..now i don't have to.
