The guy who has been on the Kings not the Pistons legend.

He had a PER of 20.54 last year averaging over 20pts and 6 assists. That sounds pretty great on paper.

The Kings, on the other hand, were terrible with a record of 28-54 with their 2 weaknesses being assists (bottom of the league) and defense (bottom third of the league). The Kings seem to be moving forward around Rudy Gay and Demarcus Cousins and they might have some potential in guys like Ben Mclemore and Derrick Williams. But they can't pass the ball and they can't play defense and Thomas is a midget PG.

Is he a good player thats a bad fit or just a guy padding stats?

I'm a UW Alum so there's a bit of bias, but I think he's a good player. I would say he's Nate Robinson but a better passer and gets to the hoop and draws fouls surprisingly well.

He's also very clutch and not afraid to take the big shot

He may not be on that Allen Iverson type level yet but he's certainly on his way. His team is weak but his talent's real. Just my opinion.

What makes me curious is that he probably isnt going to be on the Kings for very long. He might be a better fit on other teams.

He is a good but not great player yet. I think he's on his way to being great. His team is utterly terrible. Besides him and Cousins they have no real assets.

I wouldn't sleep on Rudy Gay's talent level. He had some vision issues in the past but he also had a hot streak later on in the year. I really think the Kings would want nothing better than to build their team around Rondo, Gay and Cousins. The problem (likely) is that Rondo wants nothing to do with the Kings.

I could see the Kings drafting Marcus Smart or Elfrid Payton and letting go of Thomas. He could be a wild card on a team in need of a playmaker

The evidence suggest that won't last with Gay. Any hot streak he has never lasts long. In fact i'm surprised he played as well as he did for as long as he did in Sacto. They probably won't want to pay Isaiah the money he will command on the free agent market. I think he can be the starting point guard on a contender but i don't think the Kings think so.

As a UoA Alum I'm also biased and in the same direction. The dude is a baller. There are some painful moments in Arizona basketball that can be directly attributed to him.

He's a good player. Starter worthy right now and young enough to still have loads of room to develop more. I've read that the Kings aren't that high on keeping him since he's RFA this year and their cap sheet right now is fairly clogged so if a team offers Thomas a nice deal, the Kings might not match the offer.

I think Thomas is a good player. The issue is that Boogie and Gay are black holes and Thomas is more of an AI type then a distributor. The way the team is constructed doesn't work.

Other than sitting out last 2 weeks of season and wrecking my fantasy team I say he's solid. Streaky shooter. Rumor us he was a laker fan as a kid. Hoping for a lakers offer

A score first PG who plays little defense and is a midget in the NBA? No thanks.

He's good. Makes a fine NBA backup PG. He's just not starter material, imo.

a change of pace guy who, still very young with speed to boot, would be a good fit for Lakers....

I love this bit from Wikipedia:

"Thomas was named after former Detroit Pistons All-Star point guard Isiah Thomas when his father, James, bet his friend that his favorite team, the Los Angeles Lakers, would defeat the Pistons in the 1989 NBA Finals (which the Pistons won in a surprising four-game sweep). "

Not a good enough defender to be a starter. He's a defensive liability, especially when playing bigger guards. Great scorer, though.

Bit of a necropost here but zach lowe has an excellent article on just this subject.

The Kings of Confusion «

Apparently the Kings were a .500 team when Thomas, Gay and Cousins were in the lineup at the same time and they blew it up because they didn't want three ball handlers on the court at the same time.
