Bobby Parnell signs with Detroit

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Former New York Mets reliever Bobby Parnell has signed a minor-league deal with the Detroit Tigers.

Parnell, 31, struggled in his first season back from Tommy John surgery. He had a 6.38 ERA in 30 appearances with the Mets in 2015.

At one point during the summer, team officials gave Parnell the choice of being released, going to the minors or being placed on the disabled list. Parnell chose the DL.

Always liked Bobby P. too bad things didn't work out

Morning Briefing: Back to work!

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- More than 1,500 fans attended the New York Mets’ first spring-training workout on Friday morning. It marked a record spectator turnout for a first official workout since the Mets moved to Port St. Lucie in 1998, team officials said.

“Tremendous support. Great support,” manager Terry Collins said after the workout. “Somebody said, ‘Boy, thanks for taking a picture.’ I said, ‘Listen, this is all about you guys. This is what we do.’

“We’re very, very proud of what we accomplished. ... But those fans deserve some recognition. They came out today, and they deserve the players to say thanks for the support.”

Should my next jersey be DeGrom, Sydergaard or Conforto?!

@yoga≈surfing @Chef99 @Nasty_Magician

You're asking the wrong guy...I don't like to wear other peoples' names on my back....I just usually get a generic nameless Mets jersey or tee shirt with the NY or team logo on it to show my support.....same goes for the knicks & jets. Sorry, dude.

Adam RubinESPN Staff Writer:

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (2/22/16) -- The New York Mets will wear throwback 1986 uniforms every Sunday home game during the upcoming season.

The pinstriped '86 uniforms included a vertical blue stripe sandwiched between two orange stripes down the sides of the jersey and pants.

The Mets will specifically honor their 1986 team on May 28 as part of a weekend of festivities marking the 30th anniversary of the organization's last championship.

Manager Davey Johnson, the coaches and players from the '86 squad have been invited back for a 6:30 p.m. ET ceremony before the Memorial Day weekend game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Mets also will have a pair of weekend giveaways as part of a three-day celebration. Fans attending the May 27 game will receive an '86-themed T-shirt. And the first 15,000 fans attending the May 29 game will receive an '86 championship replica ring. That game will begin at 8:08 p.m. ET and be televised as part of ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball.

As entertaining as the shenanigans are I would like a bit more focus out of the guys from here on out. An entertaining locker room is great and all but they can't lose sight of what's at stake. They are top dog now, need to be on their A game all season if they want to get back to the WS.

Yep...no doubt.

Complacency is the best friend of both disappointment & failure.

I think it's just an ooze of confidence from guys like Thor and Cespy, I like it, maybe they can bring it down a notch, especially Cespedes. But, he has added a swagger this team hasn't had in a longgggggggggg time. Probably since the '80's teams.

I'm sure they'll switch gears and totally tune in and focus as we get closer to opening day.... ...and I know the vets on the team won't let them forget how close they were last year, or how much harder it's gonna be to stay on top now that they're the one's being hunted. Expectations are high and rightly so...but they also have to stay lose and somewhat even keeled. It's a delicate balance..with the season being a long grueling marathon, not a short sprint.
