Jacob deGrom to return for Mets on Sunday in Atlanta

PHILADELPHIA -- New York Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom is due to return to the rotation Sunday against the Atlanta Braves at Turner Field.

DeGrom missed two rotation turns after making his season debut April 8. He has been with his family for the past nine days, since his son was born with what manager Terry Collins labeled "complications."

The newborn son, Jaxon Anthony, was discharged from the hospital Monday.

DeGrom previously dealt with right lat tightness, which forced him from his first start. He threw a 71-pitch simulated game without issue at the team's complex in Port St. Lucie, Florida, on Tuesday.

Logan Verrett capably filled in for deGrom last Wednesday at Citi Field, tossing six scoreless innings against the Miami Marlins. Verrett made his second start subbing for deGrom on Tuesday night in Philadelphia opposite Vince Velasquez.

The Mets will have Matt Harvey, Steven Matz and deGrom face the Braves this weekend. Noah Syndergaard, Bartolo Colon -- both on two extra days of rest -- and then Harvey will face the Cincinnati Reds during the following series at Citi Field.

DeGrom must be activated from a temporary inactive list by Saturday, at which point Rafael Montero is expected to return to Triple-A Las Vegas.

A sweep would be "amazin" but I'd be more than happy w/ the mets taking 2 of 3.....hopefully 1 of them is on Sunday when you're there....that's a marquee matchup.
