Haven't read the scuttlebutt on the Frazier rumors yet, but I'm hearing it's a viable possibility. What are the names being bandied about on the Mets side? Most likely the usual...

If the selfish greedy owners of this team decided they cared about the fans, or their team just a little, this issue would have been resolved by now. It's especially disgraceful for a team that makes it's home in the biggest media market, with tons of ad revenue.

"He's doing some things that are related to baseball activities," Collins said.

I found this quote to be hilarious. Media and fans have been getting tired of hearing about DW and "baseball activities," so TC changes it up.

What types of things couldn't possibly be "related" to baseball activities? I'm imagining walking, feeding one's self, squatting to use the toilet...those all could be related.

Cinci clearly wasn't going to discuss any trades prior to hosting the Some-Stars game. If there are any legs to this story, we'll find out later in the week.

Jeeez...with this team's lousy luck...he just might choke while eating sunflower seeds...(which is another baseball related activity)

So I believe as a result of the fallout from that Astros being hacked nonsense, the Cardinals fired their director of scouting (I believe it was earlier this month). If the Wilpons aren't willing to spend money on players can they at least open up the wallets for that guy?

DeGrom the All-Star! Completely worked the batters that inning, dialed it up to high 90s.

That was awesome. 13th pitcher in an all-star game to strike out the side in order, and on 10 pitches. (to be fair, a couple batters chased some bad ones)

Greatest living players, Franchise Fours named | MLB.com

NEW YORK (7/14)-- Major League Baseball announced a "Franchise Four" for each major league team at Tuesday's All-Star Game. And the New York Mets' results -- determined by fan voting -- since have led to spirited social-media debate.

Keith Hernandez, Tom Seaver and Mike Piazza all appear on the Mets' Mt. Rushmore.

The fourth selection? It's current captain David Wright.

The four on the ballot who did not make the cut:
Dwight Gooden, Gary Carter, Darryl Strawberry and John Franco.

Any thoughts on the Mets "franchise four" ????

Tom Seaver
Keith Hernandez
Mike Piazza
David Wright

Hard to argue against Seaver, no doubt about that choice; Hernandez is a fine pick but any one of those 86 guys would have been okay in my mind. Piazza, arguably the best-hitting catcher in history, no problem there.

But Wright? I need a little more convincing. I love the guy, but has he really been an all-time great player? And his career might be cut short.

Nice that they are spread out over several generations.

Doc or Straw should get the nod over Wright. That's definitely the younger folks that didn't know any better.

Seaver, Hernandez, Piazza for sure. They were team leaders in their respective times.

Wright? Hate to say it, but no. I don't think his actions or words or deeds had any effect on the team whatsoever.

John Franco would've been my choice over Wright.

Metsies have a tough schedule to open the 2nd half right out of the gate, with 3 consecutive series' against the 3 NL division leaders...

3 @ St. Louis....3 @ Washington.....and then 4 @ Citi vs. the LA Dodgers.

Yikes!!!

Gotta find a way to stay in the thick of things, before the Dog Days of August are upon us...

Adam Rubin, ESPN Staff Writer:
NEW YORK (7/16)-- John Smoltz will be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame on July 26, one year after his former Atlanta Braves teammates Greg Maddux andTom Glavine were enshrined in Cooperstown.
The trio led what is widely considered one of the greatest starting rotations in baseball history, yet Smoltz apparently believes the current New York Mets rotation has more talent.

"They're way better," Smoltz told the New York Daily News. "They've got more talent than we could ever have."

The Mets' rotation includes young standouts Matt Harvey, Jacob deGrom, Noah Syndergaard and Steven Matz as well as veterans Bartolo Colon and Jonathon Niese. Zack Wheeler is due to re-enter the rotation next summer after completing his rehab from Tommy John surgery.

Smoltz, Maddux and Glavine combined to win seven National League Cy Young Awards -- one by Smoltz (1996), four by Maddux (1992-95) and two by Glavine (1991, '98). All but Maddux's win in 1992, when he pitched for the Chicago Cubs, came as members of the Braves.

The Mets' rotation, led by Harvey, 26, and deGrom, 27, combines youth and potential. Harvey and deGrom have made an All-Star appearance; Syndergaard and Matz are 22 and 24, respectively.

Smoltz suggested one thing that could hold back the Mets group is the way pitchers are handled these days.

"The opportunities that exist today won't allow a lot of staffs to find out what kind of staff they can be," Smoltz told the Daily News. "That's the shame of the game. The injuries have taken over. ... There's no doubt that the dynamic arms are way better than we've ever seen. And the issue is how long can we keep them healthy and how long can they stick together financially? What we did in the era that we did, we take a lot of pride in it. We worked really hard and we didn't miss a lot of starts.

"We've anointed people a little too quickly in this game. And they don't have the ability to wait and learn and have a fair shake at the game. ... Everybody wants quick results, expectations through the roof. And that's what these guys are fighting today. They're not giving them a chance to fail too often. And when they do, what happens?"
